I don't understand the issue with Steam to be honest, the problem is when a publisher puts extra DRM on top of Steam like securom or GFWL.

It's easier for me to just buy a game on Steam than to pirate it, I never lose the game and I have it everywhere I go. I only get mad when I need to sign into and update GFWL/Rockstar Social/etc

My personal argument for my personal preference of how I like my games. Yeah.... no.
My opinion. I never claimed it was a fact, and I never said EA "HAD" to do this or that with their games.

Just my personal preference. Like it, don't like it... it doesn't matter.
    To each their own.

No, your solution doesn't work. Infact, I did call EA Help and they acted clueless about it and issued me Crysis 2 over Origin which still didn't work because it activated using the same key. Perhaps I could have e-mailed them a dozen times and eventually someone would understand but that is much effort to go through when I already paid full $59.99 at launch. I shouldn't have to do any of that crap, I purchased the game.

Total bull**** and inexcusable. Sorry but I want to play my game I will go to piratebay.se and download my crack before I wait a week for EA to remove their heads from their asses.

Hehe. I just knew the phrase 'self-entitled' would make its way into this conversation. Well... it's a conversation for most of us. Unfortunately a few people decided to devolve into something akin to a 5 year old who doesn't want to eat his peas. Actually a far better analogy would be to liken their pathetic tantrums and outrage to all my fellow Greeks and the shame they have brought upon a once proud country. See, the Greek people got so used to voting in socialists who in turn kept voting the population more and more free stuff (much like decades of free video games via piracy), only to have that gravy train all come grinding to a halt when things became unsustainable. Much like the OP.... instead of sitting down and working out the best way to deal with the problems they brought upon themselves... they go postal and torch their own neighborhoods. F*cking brilliant!!!

And just to make sure I was perfectly clear... the creation of copy protection, Steam, and Origin is 100% Completely due to every single person out there who pirates software. It's a very simple case of cause and effect.

So my advice to both my fellow Greeks and those of you who refuse to stop stealing software... It's time to start taking responsibility for your own actions because it was YOU who caused this crap in the first place. The only way to even have a chance at fix things is if people stop acting like they are entitled to another persons property and deal with the fact that perhaps from here on out, you may have to live a little less comfortable and work a few more hours a week to keep that pampered lifestyle of yours going.

    My biggest gripe is this.

The increase in dlc and companies can rush through titles more knowing that they can update later via internet....

i'll bring up the example of total wars...some have been arguing we are getting less content in the original release because they are withholding content which they can sell at a later date via dlc.

however most of the game i.e like total wars do go on sale eventually so if u wait u get on the cheap.

was never a fan of steam at first or origin but they dont bother me and the odd cheap game is good.

i do dislike intensely cut content that then comes as dlc like extra units etc etc. although this does to some extent depend on the price.

Example for why Steam is good:

Mass Effect 2. How many DLC's did it have? Too bad Bioware/EA makes you download each separately. So if I have to re-install the game, I still have to download all the extra DLC binaries separately. This contrasts to a fully integrated Steam game, where all that is handled automatically, with the DLC content being downloaded during hte initial download/install process. It also solves the online versioning problem with online games.

    SecuRom.

Hence why I like Steam, since the other DRM measures are (generally) removed from the Steam version.

In all of my years of gaming I can honestly say I have never pirated a single game and implying that all of us here pirate our games is a touch assumptious don't you think?

In fact I have been comparatively loyal to the industry buying most of my games in shops when they first come out. God knows how many hundreds if not thousands of Pounds they have had out of me over the years.

Besides, there are other ways they can combat piracy.

And this very same thing can cause issues if an update breaks the game - which has actully happened a number of times on steam.

Sometimes it all being automatic can be good, but other times it can be bad.

Online game providers have very little to do with preventing 'piracy' and everything to do with reducing distribution and production costs. Essentially producers are selling games which cost them nothing outside of the initial costs and there can be no second hand market for their games so they increase sales.

I don't understand why people keep bringing up piracy to explain why online distribution is needed, if there was no piracy there would still be online distribution; likely to a much larger scale due to the higher returns and maturer market. It' simple progression based on the principle of more for less.

It seems like whenever anything related to pc gaming is being discussed someone will jump in with "it's because of piracy", it's almost like the game companies have a mole planted in every thread.

I don't mind steam. Never had problems with it. The one thing annoying with some DRM such as secu-rom is sometimes it prevents the user from playing the game if you have 2 optical drives because it would think you were making a copy. Activation DRM I dont mind as long as you can do it as many times as you want. I like Steam because you dont have to worry about the anti piracy methods failing to work properly.

    So as the thread mentions..

"F*ck Steam, F*ck Origin and all those other stupid games manegment programes."

But there are more critical issues to worry about..like the:
Upcoming, get F*cked by Windows 8. (very soon)

(Best of luck; having games/application platform like iTune/apple on your windows Desktop PC)
