    Hi there,

my brother has Problems with his soundcard being too near to the gfxcard on the Motherboard so that he gets massive Sound Problems.

Since he also gets sound blackouts after playing with onboard sound after a while, we are searching for a good external usb soundcard.

Anyone has some good experiences ?

I was thinking the Asus Xonar U7 looks promising but not sure. :p

    System: win7 64bit

No way of moving one of the cards farther away? Or re-arranging them and putting another card close to the gfx.

PSU noise can manifest in this way.
Borrow another PSU to see if it changes.

Nope, the Xonar Needs a specific Slot and on his MB ist right next to the gfxcard. It's a brandnew system with a BeQuiet PSU so i'm counting that one out as well.

With onboard sound everything sounds good, no noise whatsoever.

    New PSUs can be noisy.
The coil whine issues that plague graphics cards vary depending on the PSU used.
Up to you whether you try it, I dont have this problem.

I don't know about the Asus USB card, but recently i've started using the SBX surround option on my PCIe SB Z card when playing with headphones and to my surprise it gives good positional audio.
So i'd guess a Sound Blaster Omni? It has those SBX Pro features and is 5.1 and an actual headphone amp. Crystal Voice is also present if you want to try and clean up a bit some noisy mics (But not the echo cancellation that the internal card has)

Reviews look good and one said that it's better than the previous Recon3D usb offering while cheaper.

Couldn't find if it has the same chip as the PCIe Z series of cards.

I've had the best experience with USB soundcards since i bought my first one in 2010.
Since 2013 i've got the Creative Omni 5.1 which was first running on win7 and now on the latest win10rs build. Not a single problem or sound glitches.

I am using it only for my headphones and it does imho everything perfekt.

So these days i presume all USB soundcards are muture and troublefree and the Xonar U7 sound to be a great card as there are many many many great customer opinions.
