Definitely a shame. I like many others have been exclusive to buying evga cards mainly for there warranty and step up program. But I feel this is pretty crappy of them and I may consider Asus or MSI for future purchases

+1 They messed up and while they did take it down, they are still not admiting anything, they still have their tail tucked between their legs and are still saying it was their own.

You vote with your wallet, if you wanna pay a company who rips off other peoples hard work, then go for it. Nothing will ever get better if we just lay down and let them shove anything they want so hard up our butts.

I dont think its taking it too far, this is a day and age of information, only now are we "allowed" to see alot of the stuff that happens behind closed doors and this kind of stuff pisses me off. They are a huge company, why cut Alexey out just to take his code and call it their own?

The only thing that really stinks, after the fact, is that so many companies probably operate in this fashion, its just chance that they messed with the wrong independent dev and it got plastered all over tech sites and steam. Otherwise, would we have known any different? How many other companies do shady stuff like this? Probably a ton. Doesent make it right. Its time big comapnies start getting the hammer brought down on them. It wont happen but it should.

edit * and it does seem a bit silly to boycott the whole company over some software, but how else to you show them that its not okay? How else are you going to tell them that you will not tolerate that kind of shady buisness? Writing an email wont do anything, you will just get back some generic bs pre-written crap. You HAVE to hit them where it hurts-their monetary gain. Thats the ONLY language these turds understand.

I will always buy EVGA as I have had personal support from them and I appreciate that.
I do feel that some of the comments about this whole issue have mirrored what might be seen as some tribal bickering almost with insults and nonsense traded back and forth from both EVGA and Guru3D fora - a total over-reaction.

However everyone is free to express and to buy whatever products they want for whatever reason.

EVGA have had a PR disaster on their hands but only amongst a few enthusiasts on a somewhat specialised forum and they have decided to draw a line under this issue, so give them some credit for listening to the criticism.

Myself - I'm looking forward to Unwinder's new Afterburner release!

...and I never will. Somehow EVGA reminds me Apple. Not that I support the other jerk, Unwinder lol

EVGA have some good warranty that others don't and this step up program, probably some comments, even my first one are a bit of angry side, then again u have a choice use precision or not, but no reason boycott the hardware, unless like always u have better alternative.

EVGA did the right thing by retracting their ocing utility so they can redesign it. Because of what has happened warranted a boycott? No I don't think so. Yes it is people's right to stop purchasing EVGA products.

Sad is the day individuals justify the outcome becuase of their own sordid reasonings. Doing this confirms the end justifies the means. Statistically anything is possible. They retracted the download because they did not completely write the code from the ground up as they put it. If they had done so, there would have been absolutely no duplication of rem statements or the like. Has everyone forgotten how this industry began? Piracy is at the core all the way back to DOS and before. Wake up and smell what is being shovelled. Shock and awe when nothing good can be stated to prove a point: Killing on one end of the spectrum and absolute perfection on the other. If the facts are not known, dazzle with bull$hit. If those tatics need to be resorted to, the individual is in denial with themselves and cannot be inconvienced by the facts. Remember the applauding when someone betrays the trust given them and see how altuistic the response will be when they "do the right thing in the end" but the reasoning provided is twisting the knife further. Shame on those who applaud EVGA for retracting the download for the reasons stated. The retraction in and of itself is an admission of guilt or they would not have retracted it. EVGA would have fired back with absolute proof that what they continually stated was the absolute undeniable truth. Spindoctors are at work and have succeeded in getting some to drink the drool.

I said they did the right thing eventually by which I mean, retracting the download and affirming that they'll go back to the drawing board and make something that is unique.

I think sometimes we internet people forget that EVGA is not a robotic entity. There are people who work there and they like us feel emotions.

I'm sure with this event they feel shame. And I bet you many of the people at the company had no idea this software was going to be a rip off. I bet many of them genuinely thought it was going to be a unique thing. I doubt even 2% of their employees are software developers and simply have to take the word of those they paid to make the software.

Now I'm not excusing what they did. It was bad. But what I'm saying is, they are trying to correct their mistake and I think we should accept that. If other companies feel like they'll get bad PR no matter what they do they may never bend to customer pressure. EVGA changed their position within a few days based on less than 50 pages of discourse across several internet forums and I think we should accept it.

If you guys still want to boycott them, that's fine. For myself, I'll probably buy EVGA again because they listened to customer feedback, it can be argued they got their hands caught in the cookie jar and that's fine but they've done what most of us told them to do (I posted on EVGA's forums too btw to let them know of my displeasure about this whole thing) which was to remove the download and make something entirely unique.

So you support EVGA stealing another person's work? The reason why I applaud EVGA's retraction is because they admitted they did something wrong and they owned up to it.

im always amazed when i see something like this go down. everyone is always watching.. so why dont people realize everyone is watching? evga is dealing with a culture that is going to rip apart their claims down to the literal source. do they think we're too busy playing video games or what? i dont get it.

this just makes me laugh. people will stop purchasing EVGA (that from my experience has superb customer support and card quality) products just because of this precision x stuff :). I personally couldn't care less :)

That is what was taken from the post. Missed the boat entirely. Admitting guilt is not as important as to how the guilt is admitted. Plus they admitted to nothing. They just stated that there was some ambiguous references left in the coding.

You make no sense. EVGA was not even making a dime, it was a free download. So I have no idea what you are even referring to here, I think you replied to the wrong fella.

That is just retarded. EVGA is nowhere near Apple.

EVGA actually puts out good stuff. Apple puts out junk with a shiny surface and marks up the price a few thousand bucks cuz it has a rainbow color apple logo on it.

The fanboyism in this forum is atrocious.

I doubt that they would have owned up to the guilt or even notice anything wrong without being called out on it.

I'm not going to fault EVGA as a whole for something that a few knuckleheads decided to do. They did the right thing by removing the app. Now what they should have done was issue a direct apology to Unwinder and well as to the public. Not that half ass notice they put out.

I don't see the point in boycotting their hardware either, just Precision at least for the time being. After all Precision will more than likely always be a step behind Unwinders work.

EVGA have been banned from my favorite brand since i have bought a black diamond 790 ultra and have issue with it... i contacted support and i recieved a nice mail like "we don't care, if you are not happy go to hell"...
i go to asus's 790 ultra and was very happy from it, maybe the mobo i used the longest time.

i would never bought a EVGA again... oups wait, anyway i couldn't... EVGA's local team have bankrupt since year and have no importator who want to deal with them... maybe is a sign lol

That should condemn them even more because of the "free" aspect. It is not free though. It is marketed as an enticement to swing dollars to their product. Something offered to distinguish them from the rest of the market. It is basic cost accounting to factor all expense aspects into the total per unit cost of a product. Just becuase an individual does not directly exchange money for the application does not mean that it is not paid for.
