Ok I recently installed a new evga 6800gt on my system, seems to run as smooth as silk with doom 3, quake 4 but i get severe stuttering with other games e.g need for speed most wanted, half life 2. This stuttering is best described as game running smooth for a while then locks up and frame rate drops severely and sound loops. The game will then run smoothly for a while again only to return with same problem later. This also happens when i disable all eye candy and reduce the screen resolution, so I know its not a card problem. My system is amd athlon 64 3400+ processor 1024 mb 2.4 ghz running on windows xp with an asus salmon k8s-la motherboard 430 watt psu. Have tried many different nvidia drivers and this doesnt resolve situation ! In need of help as this problem renders many of my games unplayable !
I'm guessing doom 3 and quake 4 use OpenGL rendering and NFS:MW and HL2 use Direct3D rendering, someone correct me if I'm wrong. If so, I've seen something like this, Direct3D rendering related, on this forum. Search around for it.
Had a look round the forum threads but cant find anything specific to my problem, anyone have any ideas please ?
donwload pci latency and lower it 2 64 for all devices and then check to make sure nothing shares a iq with the gfx card also make sure the ram is seated correctly and make sure the ram is compatable if all else fails make sure ur card is installed right check ur ramerates in hl2 using stress card and if ur avg is above 60 then its probally hardware related
Sure its not hardware related as doom 3 quake 4 call of duty 2 demo works perfectly. Where can i download a pci latency tool from ? Never dealt with this pci latency business before.
