So my cousin was lookin' for a good old hack n slash, Medieval game, and I recommended him Oblivion.

I figure he'll do the Vanilla story, but what are the essential mods? I remember stuff like OOO & Qarls texture pack.

To be clear, I just want things that improve the game, not like tons of new side quests / areas, but overall enhancements to what is there.

MMM is something I'd recommend. And probably some UI mod which makes it more suitable for higher resolutions.

It's modular - you can pick and choose which parts of the landscape you wish to use, but there are a few parts of the landscape that have been unaltered or are still getting worked on. Just download and install the finished parts (all of the one's that have been released), it does not feel unfinished.

Hmm, thanks for that, the Katanas are amazing....

Natural Faces might conflict with OOO & MMM perhaps, though. Better gold? Nice. Enhanced Water & Natural Enviroments...dunno, I mean with Quarls, those are kinda redundant, as his includes those.

Natural faces does not conflict. Here's some that I have found. Just don't make the same mistake I made, and have to reinstall because you installed over 120 mods.

It seems that a good number of decent enhancing mods have been mentioned so I'd like to chip in and recommend Mount & Blade and the more recent Mount & Blade: Warband :)

They're hack and slash, however some element of skill is involved in this, but its no harder or easier than Oblivion :)

There's also online multiplayer in the updated Warband game and the singleplayer is like a sandbox, where you control how you conquer and what you do :)

So if you can, I recommend getting him to try it out :)

Yeah, played Mount & Blade to Death, lol, hundreds of hours. Weird, after installing MMM & Compat with OOO, enemies sometimes turn green...

Also, there are big orange / black boxes which I can tell are lighting errors...ugh, way to lazy to sift through them again.

Oh well, I'll just write down the good ones and tell em.
