No problem; had some time to kill, and still have. =b

To everyone who wants to check for the DCOM error but has no idea how or doesn't know what the heck Event Viewer is :
    • Reboot your computer.
This is necessary as a first step, because the error happens on Windows shutdown.
Unless you remember when was the last time you shut your PC down.
    • After reboot, open Start menu, then type 'event' (obviously without the quotes) on the 'Search programs and files' box.
Event Viewer should show up; click that.
    • Look at the left tab.
Click the little arrow to the left of 'Custom Views'.
Click 'Administrative Events'; this should change the content of the middle tab.
    • Under 'Source' category, look for 'DistributedCOM', with 'Error' (red stop sign) under the 'Level' category.
    • Check the details (lower portion of the middle tab) of that error.
    If it reads :

The server {E10F6C3A-F1AE-4ADC-AA9D-2FE65525666E} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

...then 'congratulations', you have the error being discussed here. :p

Well my investigation is not as extensive as some of yours but it is only at shutdown for me.

    CodeNameRedNeck,
Thanks for the feedback on this issue. I've tweeted CatalystCreator about this thread already but I still believe if people also tweet him about this problem/this thread it should get his attention to the issue and address it ASAP (hopefully).

Some may also see a warning (yellow triangle) regarding RestartManager which is also a 10010 event ID. Something to do with an application that cannot be restarted (mom.exe, ccc.exe, etc) - Application SID does not match Conductor SID or something to that effect.

If you are seeing these errors posts them in this thread. Otherwise, uninstall Cat 11.4 and use an earlier version. Like 11.4 preview from March 7 or earlier.

I had the same thing with the April 5 11.4, so I went back to 10.11 whql.

If that's the case then use March 7th as previously posted. I believe the file name is amd_catalyst_11.4_preview_win7_march7.exe or just use a previous Cat 11 WHQL driver for now.

I believe AMD has pulled that one (March 7) out of their servers.
Better off getting it from this thread.

Luckily we have one nutjob that uploads things fast around here.
Not that that is bad, though. =b

Just tested 11.4a RC2 April 27th that asder posted; still has the DCOM error.
But it's expected though, as the DCOM error probably wasn't really known and/or a priority at development time.

Interesting, so the newer hotfix has it as well.

Confirmed I got this error with the pre-WHQL 11.4 drivers too - Driver Packaging Version 8.841-110405a-116955C-ATI

Also got the error, didn't even notice that I was getting the error since I installed 11.4, only noticed now since it made a game I was playing crash.
Well, I guess I'll just go back to the previous driver I was using, 11.1a.

Just a guess but do you guys use windows search service (indexing)? I wonder if setting it to disabled/stopped in services 1st then install cat 11.4 would make a difference. Hmm...(unfortunately I'm not able to try that right now).

It's turned on by default, otherwise I wouldn't suggest typing 'event' on the 'Search programs and files' box on the Start menu. =b
Gonna test it later on the day, when I find the mojo (read: time) to test the faulty drivers.

You can disable indexing without disabling the search box.

True, but I still need it to easily search around my codes from various projects.
And as I've pointed out, it's on by default, and I'm pretty sure almost everyone here have only known about it after they've read this thread.

To start off, sorry for the double post (again).

Just tested installing 11.4 WHQL without Windows Search service running.
Still the same DCOM error on a reboot, even when the service is still turned off (set to Disabled) from when I uninstalled 11.4a RC2.

At the moment, the 'safest' 11.4 is the first Preview dated March 7th.
Otherwise, keep the older drivers if you're that wary about this DCOM error.

Easy fix by roll back to older driver I use 11.3 no problem, no DCOM errors anymore.

I wait for 11.5 if they fixed DCOM sht.

11.4 Preview (March 7th), the first 11.4 preview, also works fine.

The problem is that for those who had 99% GPU on idle bug, both 11.4 'Preview' (April 5th) & 11.4 WHQL (which both are essentially the same drivers) fixed that bug.
At first I thought it's the fix that caused the DCOM error, but when I tested the March 23rd drivers I'm not so sure anymore.
Or maybe on March 23rd drivers they're halfway on fixing the 99% GPU idle bug; dunno really.

So, for anyone whose 99% GPU idle bug is fixed by these 'faulty' drivers it's a bit of a dilemma.
