If you disable HDR and lower the AA/AF values to HL2 standards there shouldn't be much of a difference.
No, they don't. Textures are sharper, shadows are much better, lightning is better, and there's HDR, which the original Half-Life 2 didn't have. Have you seen the shadows the flashlight makes? Looks great.
i have shadows on low, hdr off, i don't notice anything diffrent in the textures, i don't see why they can't just of left it as it was or at least give you the option
Well uh, we're in 2007, of course they're going to upgrade the original engine from 2004 - that's how PC gaming's always been like. We all treasure better graphics, right? I guess the options you can't turn off really can't be disabled in the engine, so that may be why.
Like john said it's 2007 so they would need to update the engine to make it take advantage of multicore cpu's,SM3.0 cards etc. Just get it for 360 or update your rig if this bothers you mate.
Don't you expect Crysis to run maxed perfectly well on a 7800gtx in 1024x768? This is nice, let me tell you this, not everyone have minted parents who buy their spoilt kids expensive graphics cards and monitors. Some people have to work their arses off to get that. And still, HL2 engine is how old now? 4 years? It should run just fine on a 6800gt or a 7800gt. Without a doubt.
There's no need to be a dick just because your post count is higher than my bank account. It's very playable on my system, although I would like higher frames. I forget the exact settings I have, but it's like 1280x1024, 2xAA, 4xAF, bloom, medium to high textures and details. I get 30-50 fps usually. There are a few points where it dropped below being able to play, but nothing that killed me. I know my rig is nothing to brag about, but it still does play most games at reasonable settings. When I look at the performance between the first source games and TF2 or portal or whatever, my computer is starting to slow down quite a bit...like half the frames I got from earlier source games. They are definitely updating the engine to keep up with the times.
And i do,no one pays for my stuff but myself and my brother who both love the same thing and i stopped letting my parents pay for everything when i turned 13. Btw the HL2 engine is 3 years old (2004).
You should have no trouble running it near 60fps unless your cpu holds you back. Beleive it or not the HL2 engine is pretty cpu intensive, though the added effects may put more of a taxing on the GPU now. I found EP2 to play a hell of alot better. The sounds of the weapons have improved as well as the rest of the sound. The engine runs smooth and the graphics look better. The physics are top notch, everything just seems to move, interact and blow up much better
Playing at 2048 x 1536 16aa 16af brought my pc to it's knees 15fps outside 30fps inside, playing at a more normal 1280 x 1024 16aa 16af it flys at 60fps+, I get a wireframe here and there though, driver bug me thinks.
He actually said high Oh, and change the don't to didn't UPDATED HL2 engine.... What kind of jobs do you need to work your ass off to get Vinnies system?
It actually runs pretty well on my PC, but at 1024x768. Textures at very high, but if i enable HDR its unplayable (10fps)
"Waited"(unconscious) until I emerged from bed(afternoon off today) Got it from Gamestop for the same Steam price of $44.99 Circuit City has it for $37.99! My wait was a comatose state and the price the same or less
I'm fairly happy with my performance But then again, I'm one of those crazes that the game looks better at 20-30fps because the motion blur is more visible so yah, my rig is getting 20-60fps depending on whats going on. avrg 35 i suppose. 1920x1200,2fsaa,4af,max the whole lot.
