I don't think anyone I know does anything other than login weekly to grab the freebies, if they consider that a successful active user, long may the freebies continue!

I'd be interested to see those numbers excluding claiming and playing free games. How many people really bought and played the titles they bought... the rest is just marketing.

Doubtful. Steam has a vastly better platform for any up and coming game development team. The only thing Epic has going for it is that they've recently given out oodles of free games. The only games I bought that are EGS I bought through other means and ended up launching on Epic, everything else was acquired for free.

Did anyone mention the fact that EGS also has Fortnite? Sorry but take off that game and we'll see how many players actively use EGS in any serious capacity. :p

I feel like the large surge in users is down to GTA5 being given away for free.

I have. Got control for $21!

All of the samurai showdown games are nostalgia for my brains and those were free! Six games in total there.

And WWZ for $5. The division 2 for $3!!!

Yeah there are deals and games to be played if you're not some hater for whatever reason people are hating for.

So what it's not steam?!? Still don't know why people are truly hating on a delivery service.

Ah, so you're obviously spending about three times as much money on EGS as the average user!
And did I criticize the EGS, or did I question the numbers presented and the marketing push behind it that's probably not the full story? ;)
    btw multi quote's your friend!

They wouldn't do that if they couldn't afford it. Fortnite is raking in an absurd amount of cash. Their strategy is actually pretty smart. Epic knows that one of the main reasons people prefer Steam is because that's what they're used to and that's where most PC gamers have the majority of their game collection. So, by offering legitimately good titles for free, people are building up their EGS library with content they actually like. The bigger the library gets, the harder it is to abandon it. The more it is used, the more its storefront will be put into people's faces. A lot of people know devs are paid better on EGS, so it incentivizes them to buy there instead.

It's a long complicated plan, but it's very clearly working.

Go on to Steam during any new Sale event and watch how slow the service becomes. Epic gives you a meaningless message to hide their failures, Steam doesn't even bother to go that far.

I am interested if anyone happens to know off hand. How did Borderlands 3 do when it arrived on Steam? You see the general reaction prior to release was that everyone hated EGS and everyone was waiting for BL3 to appear on Steam before they bought it. (An opinion that is being pushed to all games doing the EGS timed exclusive)

Then BL3 launched on EGS, assuming GBX's statements are legit it went on to massively outsell BL2 but I never saw how well it did when it launched on Steam. Did it top the Steam charts? It didn't have much in the way of competition when it launched. What about Metero Exodus, did it have similar sales results?

Would these games not be good indicators of

    a). EGS's strategy working
b). That their is a very vocal minority out there or an awful lot of total bullsh*tters
