Always wondered about Elite Dangerous have thought about pushing the button on it one or two times it's popped up on Steam sales in the past but was worried it would turn out to be an uninvolved spread sheet grind matching EVE online where it seems like awesome and epic things happen to everyone but you. Now it's free though no doubt I'll give it a try.

I can't tell you how many times i was dragged out of frame shift because i got too close to the sun, then you slowly burn as your wait for your overloaded engines to cooldown......it's right out of a sci fi movie watching your ship disintegrate around you as you watch the engine try and come back online....and in vr its 1000 times more nerve racking. Lol

This and Euro and American truck sim are still my go to simulators.

For a game that was crowd-funded and completed in less time and under budget for it's initial kickstarter...this game should be played just to see how crowd-funding game development is meant to work, for a space game...

If anyone is interested, on October 18, 2022 (1 year, 10 months, 27 days from now) the project known as Star Citizen will have been in development for 10 years, with no release date.

Elite Dangerous launched its Kickstarter on November 6, 2012, and completed this (now free) game on:

    Microsoft Windows, 16 December 2014
    macOS, 12 May 2015 (unsupported)
    Xbox One, 6 October 2015
    PlayStation 4, 27 June 2017
Xbox Series X and S 10 November 2020 (backwards compatibility)
    PlayStation 5, 12 November 2020 (backwards compatibility)

So yeah - you can play this game on next gen consoles 'baby.

I just thought this information might come up in the discussion, somewhere, and thought it best to put it here to save anyone looking it up.

    Long live Commander Jameson!

the game was almost devoid of content at launch, don't use this as an example of kickstarter success lol.

A game that caught some interest awhile back ago.

This game will defin't be one of my 4-Way Sli Tuning project.

The one that looks real good is the Elite Dangerous: Odyssey.

Most defin't going to grab this title, knew it for quite some time, never really tried it.

Loved the old Wing Commander games(Especially Wing Commander: Secret Missions) and not to mention, Volition's: Freespace series.

This should be a very nice departure.

    Thanks for sharing.

It had a target goal, that was met and funding stopped.
It had a timescale, that it achieved.

It didn't extend it's scope beyond the set targets
It didn't continually take more donations beyond its goal
It didn't take 10+ years to deliver its goal
It didn't lie to its community
It didn't attempt to call the video games industry, the publishing industry, the entire financial, investor and banking industry names for not financing its project
It didn't change the terms and conditions to suit itself whenever it wanted to slow down the project
    It didn't use stupidity
It didn't call game engines stupid.

Sounds like a very good success story to me. 'lol'.

"This is how much we need to make Elite, and this is when it will be completed".

GASP AND SHOCK! They released it early, refunded those who didn't get the content they requested - most uncommon for someone on Kickstarter, do you not think?

I take it back, it is the very definition of a success story, 'sir.
