If they want to sell skins, they should do it directly. Gambling is bad practice.

...: "Bad EA. Very Bad. Behave Yourself."

Well, no more pre-orders from EA. No more after launch purchases. I will wait what will they do with game for a year. And then maybe I'll see game as already in decline and not even worth getting.

To be clear, random loot boxes have never been removed from the game. Only the options to purchase currency to buy them for real money has been removed. Sadly, that's now coming back, but they have reworked the loot boxes which will no longer include star cards but only cosmetic stuff instead and the ability to purchase currency for them for real money will be re-enabled with this.

The good thing is that the progression/ability system will no longer have anything to do with random gambling loot boxes going forward.
Still, I would have liked it if random gambling loot boxes had been removed altogether. I hope gambling/loot boxes for real money will one day be banned from games by law.
Also, there should be no microtransactions for full priced games either. I get it for free to play games as people need to make money, but if you buy a game, it should come with everything, and not just parts. I'm okay with paid "classic expansions" in single player gameslike we have recently seen from games like The Witcher 3, though. In multi player games such things just segregate the community.

Weird, its okay when Valve does it but bad when EA does it.

I'm not defending EA, just pointing out hypocrisy.

EDIT: There is no specific hipocrisy of this in his post, but i'm pointing out the hipocrisy that when EA makes a lootbox with purely visual effects its "bad" and when Valve does it in a pay for game (e.g. dota 2, team fortress 2 or portal 2) it's "alright".

I was not talking about the gameplay altering loot they had previously.

Hope this clears some confusion up.

EA always trying to justify the crap. I liked to know where they got the initial feedback to make the game "pay to win".

I did not see anyone defending Valve in this news, where did you read that? Who is being hypocritical?

Well, it makes little sense actually... sure they brought a progression based star card system, but just wait for them to release short cut bundles like with Battlefield so you once again can buy those skillsets, one for every class and one all to gether with a discount etc. Doesn't change much in terms of paying to get it faster, if I understood how they implemented it now.

Well, it's hard to feel sorry for the people who buy this game. Serves them right, IMO.

Valve has pay to win ? In what game ? From what i know all games have only cosmetics purchases (Dota 2, CS GO and TF2).

And so does Battlefront 2 now, only cosmetics in loot boxes or for puchase.

I think @CalculuS was referring to having to buy lootboxes for visual improvement, as he might have misunderstood / read @Fox2232 comment. Just taking a guess here as to what you 4 people are actually referring :D

Glad I stopped buying EA games about 4 years ago (with the exception of a Madden game every other year used on PS4).

I can't help but laugh at how EA's quote was in Comic Sans. Whether that was intentional by Hilbert or not, it really helps set the mood in such an enjoyable way.

I do not support any gambling in PC games other than random bonuses gained through actually playing game.
I do not mind paying for visual differentiation, but gambling is just hurting human personality. And last thing I want is kids being used to gambling before they have ability to properly calculate odds.

For me personally, gambling is only half the problem. I refuse to buy these games because if I paid full price for a game, I expect a complete product with a justifiable amount of content. That, and pay-to-win is a total killjoy - it's nothing more than cheating permitted by bribery.

Show me the $60 Valve game that does this. I was only able to find two free games, and a dirt-cheap one.

The cheap one having loot boxes and transactions is still bad though. But not as bad as a full-price game doing it.

Well by them removing the Loot boxes in the first place really broke the game as it left with a huge gap that made no sense at all. Not surprised that they are putting them back in because the game was made with them in mind. What's next EA pulling a 2K and start putting Mircotransactions in their Sports games. Also I feel that any PC game that has a form of gambling such as loot boxes and you need real money to purchase it should have an automatic Adult only rating by the the Software rating board that does for each country such as the ESRB for the States because in some places the legal Gambling age is 21.
