It'll be nice when things come full circle again and developers rediscover the value of game demos. Trailers are for films and/or TV shows, imo--for passive entertainment. Interactive entertainment demands something more.
Yes a demo lets you play the game for yourself but they are limited to the knowledge, experience and imagination of the player. So while I agree with you about demos, I disagree about trailers, so why not have both? For example, imagine playing Street Fighter where you know knowing of the special fighting moves or anything about combos... the game would be pretty dull. But a trailer can also show you what you can do, to lead you in to new ways of thinking about the game and what you can do within it. A trailer is also an easy way to show you reasons why you should want to play the game in the first place, demos are only good if you were interested before hand.
Why release a demo when you can just lie to people with pre-rendered "in-engine" videos? Come on people, you have think like a video game publisher.
The reboot looks pretty nice, if only they had overhauled the combat animations too. As I didn't play the first game (besides the demo hehe), I think it's time to board the train.
