There is a tremendous amount of concern about the privacy of the machine you are using to run Origin (and all other software for that matter). This day and age information is important to protect, however information goes two ways. What is difficult is to judge what is possitive and what is negative. The best thing to do is to remove yourself from the situation altogether.

The best solution is simply to dedicate a gaming machine. This way the only information collected is unidentifiable and mostly information they already have (their games). Run all your important data on a separate machine. Netbooks / Notebooks are fairly cheap these days and you don't need an i7 5Ghz cpu to run Excel and your Banking Webpage.

Now you can play your games without worry about your data being exposed. Those with programming knowledge probably have better ways of safe guarding their data (advanced router, permission access only, hidden drives) but for the rest of us this a quick, cheap, and easy way to not have to worry and simply play the game.

Have not read whole thread,i do agree with your post though.
One question:What is it that EA and Origin want to collect and sell from the Pc?

It's called market strategy. To sell something and to sell ****load of something, you must have information. And as much as possible (what software users use and what games they playing is a critical information for any publisher).

Usually publishers are ready to spend money for that information. Origin goes cheap and greedy way. It's just collects all info and sends it to EA, easy as that. Now EA would have more information about customers and what they like to play.

EA can dig through my entire hard drive, I'm not a fan of "invasion of privacy" but I really have nothing to hide. If I did, it wouldn't be on my PC. Enjoy quoting me bro.

Really, you really need me to explain? Okay here's a simple question

    What is this topic about?

The EA Origin EULA, if everything posted so far is as a result of peoples interpretation of the EA Origin EULA how exactly does quoting one specific section whilst ignoring contradictory other sections help?

Of course posting stuff like this?

Actually that is 100% wrong, EA are the primary cause of this FUD, just because sites are reposting the changes to the Origin EULA and specifically highlighting the 'scanning hard drive and sending info back to EA' part is irrelevant, it's part of the EA Origin EULA, it's actually in there saying they can choose to do this. The fact is EA decided to change the terms of the Origin EULA just weeks after telling us that it would be a requirement for BF3 irrespective of weather or not you buy retail or D2D and they do all this with just a few months to go and more importantly well after the pre order rush would have occurred.

If people are concerned about what Origin will and will not do and as a result won't buy the game then that is their choice and end of the day it is EA's fault, 100%. EA can stop this right here and right now by issuing a press release stating what they intend to do with Origin once its on all these peoples computers but I don't think that will ever happen.

Are you posting completely drunk? EA is trying to clarify things as best as they can. They even put important things in cap letters and bold. They are saying don't worry we know your information is important to you and we will not give it to anyone unless stated by law. There is no other different way to interpret this. English is English just like math is math. You can't interpret it a different way if you know English. So why if they changed there EULA. That is irrelevant. The fact that they changed it and made it more precise means they are trying to simplify and clarify the confusion that all the online hardware sites and people like YOU are spreading on the internet!

Time to be real here. EA can change there EULA every month. If you click "I agree" then that means you agreed to there new terms. There is no FUD in that my friend. I suggest you learn Basic English and stop trying to add "uncertainty" into this topic. Because frankly that is all you are trying to do. You are trying to add uncertainty concerning the EA-EULA. Anyone with grade 5 English should be able to understand this...

You have no concept of marketing.
The EULA isnt written by Bob the gardner, it is carefully worded to try and soften the blow of what they are really up to while holding legal form.

It is NOT precise, it is non specific.
Look up the word "may" in the dictionary.
They dont state "specifically" what data they collect either.

In case you havent grasped it yet, the problem is that they are doing scans without consent.
They state, that by installing the software we have consented.
We are held to ransom, we have no choice if we want to play.
It is the errosion of our rights that is at issue, this includes your rights and future generations too.

Blimey, we take on the fight for all of us, so you side with them and call us stupid?

There is no fight worth fighting if you have no chance of ever winning! DRM will be here next year, the year after that, and the years after that...

LOL, I see what's happened you have lumped me in with the fools who think EA are going to take my personnel data and sell it to the highest bidder and as such seem to be responding that way. Well the constant highlighting of personnel info usage suggests that anyway.

Let me clarify my position, I don't care about EA collecting personnel info, chances are if you have an Origin account you gave them it anyway. My concern centres around the monitoring of my system, and this isn't some stupid 'I am afraid they'll find my pr0n stash non sense' it is a rather more simple,

'How does knowing how often I use VCL or Paint help them make BF3 better?'

Your quoting of what EA do with personnel info is irrelevant to what I am saying because I couldn't care less about it, what I highlighted, and in my very first post on this subject may I add, is their statement about not installing spyware whilst also saying in their EULA that they monitor your system for application usage, like spyware could.

So we arrive back at EA saying one thing on one hand whilst saying another on the other. Now given that you think so highly of 5th grade English please confirm that you can see how this is contradictory and how it can cause confusion.

The fight is to prevent DRM from getting harsher, its not about defeating DRM.

    A very interesting discussion.
I thought to register merely to give my view on this.

First of all, thank you (and all other sites out there) for informing me about this disastrous attack on our consumer rights. We gamers are the weakest consumer group ever...We are truly pathetic but this is indeed a line I won't cross.

I had read about this before buying the game but thought it was only scanning and publishing information about games you had on their own program + my hardware. Or at most looking through a few .reg files.

This active scanning just like their horrible DRM puts back EA on the place of the devil in the gaming industry. I will attempt to return my game tomorow and if not give it to a friend who will buy it regardless of what I say sadly.

Honestly, I've stoped caring if my personal boycot has any effect on them or if my emails have any effect. I'm active politically in attempts to restrain these corporate crooks but beyond that I merely cherish and value my privacy more than a game.

In the past we criticsed communist and other regimés for spying on their citizens. These were governments, with some degree of popoular control over them and we were still disgusted with them. We are still actively disgusted with our own governments attempts to monitor us.

Yet some of us allow, or even laugh at the notion of misuse by a non-democratic, for-profit entity like EA ?
    I'll never understand you.

Man where are Anonymous when they're needed? This foul play from EA is surely grounds to have their Origin servers hacked for a month since they've been spying on us :whip:

I hope they use a vnc client to watch what I'm doing on my computer.

They can enjoy the same porn I'm watching at the same time with me.
