390 or 970. Both pretty much equal even when overclocked tbh @ 1200 390 matches 1450mhz 970. Ram will be rather moot point imo. With 970 you get tad smaller power bill not much but some.

Seriously tho either card is fine just fine. Probably get the one that is cheaper from the get go.

A member on here has offered me a deal with a 980 which I might be taking, but I wont know if I'll be able to do so until tomorrow evening. Here's hoping things work out! If not I'll keep searching for either a 970 or 390, if I can get one a fair bit cheaper than the other I'll pick it up.

If I was you I would have 2 options.

    1. Wait for pascal to come out / new nvidia driver comes out that fixes dx12 compute. See how it performs.

    or

    2. Buy a 390/390x

The main issue is with DX12 around the corner, the 970 may become obsolete very soon. We have to wait and see how good nvidia's fix is. I would not risk it. If you buy a 390/390x at least you know your card will be a performer in the future.

They are still forced to send it to you right? even if it's a typo.

yeah, there must be some sort of issue there with newegg, i find it difficult to believe that it would go that cheap, it is cheaper than a 750ti...
