I plan on upgrading to the 5800x3d hopefully during the summer time. I currently have the Arctic 34 eSports pro duo single tower cooler. My 3700x max's out at 85c when running OCCT AVX2 stress test after a couple minutes. I would get the Arctic Freezer 50 but the RAM clearance isn't enough.
I have seen some AIO 240 sets (DeepCool LE500 Marrs) for 70€. Just an idea, that AIO kits might be worth checking out. Should not block RAM, OK cooling performance and not horribly expensive. No idea if that DeepCool set is any good, but perhaps keep your eyes open for those 240 AIO kits, you might find a good deal. Or does it have to be an air cooler?
How tall is the ram you are using? The Peerless Assassin 120 is 150mm tall and the fan on the memory side can be slid upwards to provide ram clearance to some degree. For under $40 it is a very good cooler for my 5800x3d.
Absolutely making sure the CPU doesn't thermal throttle especially under normal instances like gaming. It max's out at 67c when running cinebench. It's currently sitting at 40c and all I've been doing is browsing the web all day. I have PBO enabled and maxed out. The PPT, boost override, everything. Ambient room temperature is 21c. 26c during the late spring and summer time.
Repasted the CPU with Arctic mx-6 thermal paste and changed the cooler orientation so the logo is facing up and I can't get the temps to go over 71c. I tried all settings in OCCT. Even if I did have a 5800x3d I don't think I need a new cooler at this point.
