Well, I'm on an AMD/AMD system, for me it's there.

Two things I've noticed so far: Brightness control os not working via windows interface, which is a bit annoying, especially on battery.
However they probably did something for energy saving, because the battery runtime is pretty decent anyway.

[EDIT] ANd I tried to install it on my very old laptop (HD2600) and it installed fine (the unmodded veresion), but the device manager said "no driver installed"

That's been broken for quite awhile. You can change the setting, then sign out and back into Windows and it should change then. Repeat to change setting.

    Annoying as fsck, I know.

I don't even install CCC2 on my laptop, I use the new pre-GCN drivers (with modded inf) with the old CCC installed by Windows 10 (which comes with some custom 15.7.0-ish driver).
I don't think they cared to make those tabs available since these mobile pre-GCN products were already in legacy status when Crimson arrived (and some of them aren't supported by the pre-GCN Crimson Beta anyway).

I don't have problem with the brightness controls though.

We also packaged CCC2 (the latest one from the 15.11.1 press release driver) into UnifL 16.2.1 because it is simply easier to use for PX AMD Intel folk. (or at least some).

This driver simply had issues with the CCClite not displaying PXAI switching settings. However one user reported that the newer driver: 16.101.1611.1002 has a working CCClite version. Atlough this might be because of an upgrade from 16.2.1.

Nevertheless pre-GCN cards were still updated up to 16.2.1.

I am not sure who spread the myth that AMD wasn't supporting pre-GCN devices up to and and after the GCN Crimson beta.

The AMD Mobility HD 5xxx / 6xxx series coupled with Intel HD first gen was fixed only with 15.11.1 and "nearly" fully only with 16.2.1 on Windows 10.

What do you mean with broken for a while? With 16.2.1 brightness control worked just fine and these are the first drivers since then I got to run.
Also, I don't have a brightness setting anymore in windows, so your way is not gonna work for me. Within the advanced settings there are two brightness controls, but that is not the background light and they change colors pretty much.

I'll install the next release and see if it's working again.

    ?
AMD website says these cards get updates via win update. This package is one and 2600 is in the inf. Why shouldn't I try?

main reason is that they do not actually contain any drivers for earlier cards than the 5000 series, infact if you look at the inf of any crimson driver you will see that the inf while it does contain ids, doesn't actually install anything all the appropriate sections are blank.

Well, on my G73JH (5870M), the AMD drivers under 8.1 and 10 have not worked for brightness control for a couple of years.

If its not a switchable 5xxx + Intel HD first gen then you are missing a dword that prevents the brightness from working.

The dword can be found on this forum or on the unifl forum.

Faced this a couple of times, both Intel, nVidia and AMD.

Go into the device manager and check what type of monitor is detected/installed.

If my mind doesn't fail me it should be PnP Monitor for the windows brightness control to work; with drivers changes it sometimes changes to non-pnp monitor, and then the controls are a no-go.

If it's detected as non-pnp force an driver update on it to pnp monitor.

First of all there is a newer driver here

After you've downloaded it, extract it. To install a custom driver you have to disable driver signature check, google it if you don't know how. Then go to Device manager, right click on your GPU -> update driver -> browse computer-> select "C0304988hybridgfx".

If you don't understand what you are doing, you'd better not to do.
