Bioware announced that not only does it have an online activation requirement, but that it requires periodic re-activation online ala bioshock 1 mass effect 1. I cancelled my pre-order today, F-em. I won't buy ME3 either if it has the same deal.
"it'll periodically require you be online for a login check, at yet-undecided intervals. " That's from your link. It doesn't matter if it's once a month or once every 10 days, an online check is MORE than enough to sufficiently piss off legitimate customers. Anything else is just rubbing salt in the wound. I'll grab the DRM free version. I bought DA collectors edition as well and the expansion and ME and ME2 collectors edition, but if they don't want my money that's cool.
I agree man, I like Bioware, but this having to be online all the time to play games is getting lame. I avoid steam unless they are having a sale. That particular method of game delivery is probably on the downward leg of its run, anyhow.
Dragon Age II demo releasing on February 23 According to a Kotaku report, the demo will release on February 23 on PC at least, with GameStop staff set to get the taster earlier on February 11. The reason for GS employees getting the demo early is so they can apparently become “a key source of knowledge for GameStop customers and BioWare fans.” We’ll check in with EA this morning about it. Dragon Age II releases on March 8 in the US and March 11 in Europe for PS3, 360 and PC. Source
Having the game tied to an online account is definitely not good, because it means you are totally subject to EA. For example, I was permanently banned from the Bioware forums, and because of EA's dumbass rules, my legitimately purchased ME2 DLC was permanently suspended so I couldn't use it even though I paid for it. Of course this didn't stop me. All it did was push me to get a crack, which removed all the DRM from ME2 and restored all my DLC and then some. I've already preordered DA2, but as soon as a crack comes out, I'll be using it..
+1 so they're gonna have some stupid online verification process. I'm still going to buy the collector's edition anyway, and use a crack as soon as its available. No harm done
They're actually still considering whether or not to include periodic login checks according to Fernando Melo as of a few hours ago. Probably because of the rage on the BioWare Social Network.
Oh well, already cancelled, I happily lost my $10 deposit to not have to give them $50 of my money which they do not deserve. If you go to a restaurant where the food is good but they treat you like sh!t....you don't just go back for the food... The day I 'settle' for DRM is the day I quit gaming. periodic activation or not it will still require online activation. I'm not ok with that or bioware's attitude. ( they posted smileys in the official DRM announcement etc as if to aggravate people further ). They owe me $10 as it stands. Maybe I'll pirate the game and get my money back
'Evil' Priestly has done that for I don't know how many years. There's always an 'evil' smiley at the end of every post. It's a joke.
I had considered getting DA2 despite being annoyed by DLC, but this definitely makes me not purchase it. Eff them, I will get it another way. Bioware has finally been ruined by EA. Everyone hoped it wouldn't, now its official.
i really dont like where this game is going, i also canceled preorder. the story doesnt feel as epic as first one, atleast at this point, the ui is too spartan for me, graphics look the same, dunno whole thing looks really uninspired for a sequel, i just hope those things are marketing bads.forcing this kind of drm when if you want to pirate it you will be able to do it since day one and probably before the game is released is also beyond me, dont they remember spore and how that thing backlashed. and today i saw they are taking out friendly fire out for all of the difficulties exept the hardest one, its just stupid design choice. this thing really bothers me because they are forcing the players who want to play little bit more strategic on probably frustrating difficulty level...
I'm not canceling my preorder yet but I too agree that they risk much by changing the sequel so drastically from the original that I for one loved (finished it over over 6 times and got all the DLC). I mean you had quite a lot dialogue choices in DA1 and now they apparently make it Mass Effectish by highlighting the evil/good options along with the talent/spells ff dumbing down. But most frustrating is that you have a single origin apparently... Hawke who can be human only. I mean seriously this was the best part of DA that you had huuuuge replayability, now you get good/evil as male and good/evil as female. Basically ME in pseudo-medieval/fantasy skin. Why not let ME be ME and DA be DA both with their own feautures...
exactly, hell, dragon age was designed with hardcore players in mind, but it was played by casuals too. my friend who played only sims and games liked that, started playing DAO and loved it, she even completed it multiple times on higer difficulties. the main thing about FF for me was that you just couldnt round mobs around your tank and spam aoe, you could aoe, but you had to be smart about it. And when they asked why not FF toggle or something simmilar they basicly answered; players are so stupid they wont be able to notice that toggle. the sad thing is by removing FF they will mitigate difficulty by adding more enemies or increasing their health pool so you can spam more AOE.
About Demo: 1 - Can we import from Origins into this demo? The demo does not have a character or save game import feature. 2 - Is there a character creator with the demo or do we play default Hawke? No. While you can modify your character in the main game, this is disabled in the demo 3 - Does the demo allow you to just start the full version of DA2 from where the demo leaves off? No. The demo begins with the beginning of Dragon Age II and then shows you a glimpse of a mission that occurs later on in the game. 4 - Will it show off DX11 effects on the PC? DX11 features will only be available on the PC purchase copy of Dragon Age 2. 5 - Can we play Male and Female Hawke? Yes you can choose male or female Hawke. Source
