Doom eternal looks much better than 2016, remember your watching crappy compressed streaming video. You can see the enemies look loads more detailed along with the ability to blow chunks out of them (higher poly count) and the map detail and geometry have been dialled up to 11. I think you see the difference quite clearly when gaming on a big screen @ 4k. Also RTX support may come to the PC version as Youngblood supports it.

They have at least 4 more months dev work left so who knows what they might add / change in that time.

I never said or even implied that you need a $500 card to play the game so I don't know where you got that from o_O

All I said was that the engine improvements that Id made with IdTech 7 compared to IdTech 6 are noticeable, especially in terms of openness and texture quality.

Got some bad news for you friend, $500 won't buy you a top end graphics card anymore.

Doom had good texture quality and the PBR shaders was also very good, but Doom Eternal surpasses it on both fronts. Don't know why you find this so controversial, it's common for developers to improve their technology for sequels and IdTech 7 specifically mentions texture quality and detail as one of the main upgrades from IdTech 6, along with increased geometry.

Here's a visual comparison between Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal. To me it looks fairly obvious, with clear improvements in texture resolution and detail, plus geometry.

Id/Bethesda has not released the system requirements for Doom Eternal, so I don't know where you're getting the RTX 2070 from o_O:confused:

He was replying to people saying you couldn't get a top end card for 500 bucks, when the 2070 is available for a little under 500.

Oh! Well, I suppose it's more nuanced than that. For every grade of GPU, there are tiers. The GTX xx70 series has typically been an entry level high end card, but top end? Nah....

Top end, IMO, depends on what that person specifically wants from the card.
If they want 1080p, 60fps... this tier of cards work, 1440p... this tier... 4K... this one.

Take my card, a 1070 Ti, it's not top end. But I'm damn happy with it. It delivers everything I personally want and more. It may not be a "top tier" GPU, but for me... given it handles everything I want, it is.

    The 2070 is not a top-end card.

The 2080 and 2080 Ti. If you want to be literal, then it's only the 2080 Ti, since it's the top nvidia gaming card. "Top", by definition, means there's nothing else above it.

Nightmare texture/shadows setting was hard to run. You guys have forgoten that without 8GB vram no one would advice to even try and that was Doom 2016. Now Eternal can take that even one step beyond.
