Oh man. You must be enjoying this game a lot. I've always liked Doom since when I was a kid. But these days, I just can't get into this latest Doom iteration. On my paper, this game has ticked almost everything to be a good shooter. But I just can't get into it and I don't know why.

Ok, I know I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but I just picked up this game on a nice Black Friday special. It's really good, and I feel like anyone who liked DOOM 2016 would also really dig this one. One major complaint though. It is much more difficult, but not in a very balanced way. They increased the overall difficulty, but also seemed to cut the available ammo virtually in half. Has anyone else had this experience? I had a tough time making progress on the "Hurt me plenty" difficulty, because I simply kept running out of ammo. That just seems a really cheap ass way of bumping the difficulty. I just bumped the difficulty down a notch to see if that balances the game a bit more. Keep in mind, I crushed DOOM 2016 on the hurt me plenty mode.

That, and there seems to be an inordinate amount of platforming elements. Since when is DOOM a platformer? lol. Anyway, I'm not really complaining about that one because it really does seem to open up the environments and make the stage design more interesting than ever before.

I may not even get any responses to this thread nearing the end of 2021 on a year+ old game, but I just wanted to share my rabble lol.

Also, to get more ammo, you need to use chainsaw more often. Especially on smaller enemies which only costs 1 bar. And there are, if I remember correctly, upgrades for how much ammo you can carry. Anyway, there are much more enthusiastic Doom Eternal players on this forum who will be eager to help you... like @AsiJu :)

    Welcome to Eternal (torment)!

Chainsaw is an integral part of gameplay loop, learn to use it consistently within combat.

General term is keeping your stacks up, ammo (chainsaw), health (glory kills or ice bomb health upgrade), armor (flame belch and meathook mastery).

At first you can train yourself to chainsaw any time low ammo warning pops up.

Also keep switching weapons, don't spam just your favorite, that won't really work well in Eternal (as opposed to 2016 where you could just spam SSG and win).

I have gameplay videos in this thread and more in YT if you want to check them out.

Once you master the gameplay loop the difficulty starts feeling more fair and rewarding too.

Also feel free to ask if any specific bit or enemy is giving you trouble.

Ok, there are some solid tips here. I had no idea the chainsaw was so integral to being successful in this one. It seems they’ve forced that a bit, as in previous games it’s just an optional weapon for a little extra ludicrous gibs lol. It sounds part of the key here is to be more proactive and varied in your attacks.

Yeah mix it up. Chainsaw returns lots of ammo so that's your ammo "pickups" in Eternal.

Think of it as making every fodder enemy an ammo dispenser. So do not try to use it as instakill weapon. Yet.

Also for 1st playthrough def set difficulty to what feels comfortable, the game has a learning curve.
You can start pushing it up later, if you wish.

I dare say this was one of the biggest personal achievements in gaming - if not the biggest - as far as overcoming a challenge goes :)

Nightmare Master Levels are no joke. How long did you grind for those?

All in all I've played SP for probs about 400...450 hrs (can't tell exactly because bethesda launcher...) which contributes obviously.

I had to attempt UN on Taras for about 20 times I think.
Maybe more, sometimes I died to smth stupid right at the start.

Did regular nightmare, extra life mode nightmare and classic mode (ultra-violence) before that.

Imo Taras is the second hardest master level, topped only by World Spear.

Mars Core and especially Super Gore Nest are way easier. Let alone ARC and Cultist Base.

Tried Double / Sylar lock on burst tech on Khan Maykr, you can make that fight a triviality:

(And my execution was sloppy too on the vid.
You could do this way faster still and with less damage taken).

It's a doosie for sure. I needed to grind it a fair bit for nightmare let alone ultra nightmare.

Imo taras ml is the second hardest content in game.
