    Yeah.
While I like Eternal, I feel they leaned into the forced resource management a bit too hard. It's a game that wants you to have fun on it's terms.

You guys just don't get the game properly :p

There are different shooter subgenres ofc but I too tend to feel bored by "regular" shooters now.
Case in point: Prodeus. It should have been 100 % up my alley but it started feeling dull after a while.

Eternal allows you to have fun in several ways once you master the combat.

Following up - and I hope I can compose my thoughts somewhat concisely - this is actually something I've thought about a lot.
Why do certain people absolutely adore this game when others find it tedious even within people who like fast-paced first person shooters.

Masterful technical execution aside, the pure skill-based gameplay allows for a very high skill ceiling and that gives me a lot of incentive to play.
The game has other positives too, being Doom, but to compare I only played through 2016 once.
I started another playthrough but just dropped it, the game failed to give incentive to play for me.

Eternal on the other hand, have replayed base campaign more than ten times, TAG 1 4 or 5 times, TAG 2 already 2 times.
And TAG 2 would have more replays had I not started attempting UN already.

I'm basically paraphrasing GmanLives' review but I agree with the sentiment that Eternal is an evolution for the genre, pushing the envelope on what a first-person shooter can require and expect from the player.

To follow up on that, when people say the game must be played in a very certain way, consider:

is the game forcing you to do something, or are you trying to force the game to fit your playstyle that you use in other shooters?
Do you feel the game forces your hand because you cannot just circle-strafe with the chaingun or rocket launcher effectively?
To extrapolate on that, would you say og. Doom or Quake force your hand by not allowing to just use the starter weapon entire time?

I linked the PC Gamer article because it matches my own experience pretty well.
You only need to look at my older posts in this thread to find I had the very same frustrations about Eternal initially: too much resource management, too specific combat and so on.

Already later on 1st playthrough I started "feeling" the game and on the second run it completely clicked.
Once you learn the concepts of the game and incorporate them fluently into your gameplay loop, you'll find there's also a ton of creativity available.

I fully appreciate this game is not for everyone, not least because of the learning curve involved, but feel obliged to bring this up.

If a person says they don't like Eternal, that's fine, but if the reasoning is the game forces your hand I dare say it's a bit flawed.
The game does not positively require a certain approach, but it does require learning the game's mechanics to allow for creativity.

Doom Eternal in its entirety is a breath of fresh air in modern gaming, some inconsequential retrofitted cosmetic purchases aside.

(Do I like you can now buy skins because it was said that wouldn't happen? No.
Do I really care either way? No).

Thanks if you read all this, feel free to disagree now.

(But don't expect a reply if your disagreement is along the lines of "you're just a fanboi lol go play Roblox").

    I rest my case :)
(aka 10 ways to humiliate a Mancubus, some strats involve hitting weak points, some quick swaps, some grenades + weapons, some just using a single weapon)

    Doom Eternal with ray-traced reflections.

Missed opportunity not going with RTGI imo.

    Age-restricted video.

Uploader can define age restriction in video properties.
Maybe NV thought ray-traced reflections of guts is bad for the kids...

Gladly no non-restricted videos of the game can be found...

    @skacikpl
Nvidia write-up (link above) says RT reflections only:

"...DOOM Eternal is pushing the visual boundaries even further by adding ray-traced reflections and performance enhancing NVIDIA DLSS."

Btw off topic but if anyone uses credit card to verify age, Google will auto save it as a payment method.

So remember to go to account management and payments and delete the card info afterwards.

RT-wise yes, but Eternal is gameplay-first kind of game in a very literal way so personally any RT is just a bonus.

Icing on a cake that was already so sweet it made you throw up on the mere thought :p

3.46 GB update downloading now... no patch notes though as far as I can tell, perhaps contains Taras Nabad Master Level and some RT reflections :)

EDIT: Slayer's Club mentions a cosmetics-only June 1 update, perhaps this is that...

yep, no changes to options or anything... too bad.
