We see that with any big name release that pushes visuals any. There's always that group that try to play the game on stuff some years upon years ago. And then... it's the developers fault a brand new game in 2016 won't run on an 8800GT.
I just remembered I couldn't max out original Doom on my 486. I call shenanigans and blame IBM :bonk:
I like the game and the performance is good but the landscape and architecture textures are poor which is a shame.
Yea sometimes you spot lower detail textures and actually almost all lose fidelity a bit really up close. But that doesn't harm the experience and understandably tradeoffs need to be made somewhere. Texture streaming in iDTech 6 is way better than iDTech 5 which was my main concern given RAGE and Wolf games etc. Plus the prebaked light maps, but Doom handles dynamic lighting impressively.
I had my doubts with this being a Bethesda title, but F yeah full 21:9 support. Runs like a dream when you disable steam overlay. Everything is so... fluid :gape:
Ive never had an issues with steam overlay on in DOOM. I have not ran it on my 970 yet, but ran completely maxed out 60 fps @ 3360x1440 when I had my Fury X. Gonna try it to see how it runs on this 970.
I do not have any problem with streaming textures in Rage or Wolf but in doom many textures are completely rendered when I stay on place without motion or when I am close to the textures.
^ to each his own, personally I dislike the notable texture pop-in with idTech 5. Plus the resolution isn't that great even with highest settings in any iDTech 5 game. You get used to it after a while and it doesn't stop me from enjoying the games, which are great, but Doom (iDTech 6) is a lot better in this respect IMO. It happens in Doom too, but usually only at the beginning of a level / after loading. After the assets are cached it's not really noticeable anymore. Also Doom uses a less noticeable fade-in method. The fade in was an option in Wolf games too but it really didn't help mask the pop-in much. Though with little imagination you could pretend it was your eyes shifting focus after turning your head or something.
Textures are good enough in my opinion for I can't believe they have not authored higher quality ones so it would be great if they could release them even if a tiny minority of people would have the VRAM to spare. "Nightmare" textures can use up to 5.5gb already.
Its a one moment thing, otherwise it settles ~ 4.7GB @ 1440p+.. I usually sit ~ 4.8GB @ 1620p. Rage can use high amounts too if you set 16K mipmaps, over 3-4GB... Default defaults to 4 or 8K mipmaps. All at 16K also eliminates that annoying streaming popups if you turn around quickly..
You know what ? Thanks a lot I will try those when/if I decide to reinstall Rage. I thought Doom would ask for a bit more than 4.7gb at 1440p. I saw it at 3.6-3.8gb at plain 1080p. I wish devs would be more comfortable releasing super high resolution textures pack as an option for those who can take advantage of it.
How can you do that? Definitely will try this myself too. Can the same trick be applied to Wolf games?
Yes for all ID5 games by Wolfenstein >>> wolfconfig.cfg (C:\Users\TJ\Saved Games\MachineGames\Wolfenstein The New Order\base) vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly2 "16384" vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly "512" both to "16384" if 8192 vt_pageImageSizeUnique "8192" vt_pageImageSizeVmtr "8192" OldBlod was already tweaked, now when I checked my cfg from 1yr ago.. vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly "16384" vt_pageImageSizeUnique "16384" vt_pageImageSizeVmtr "16384" r_initialMonitor "0" r_mode "16" r_multiSamples "4" image_anisotropy "8" m_sensitivity "4.80" RAGE has some extra possible tweaks, here its for 2-3GB vram cards, http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4390296&postcount=3 btw seta fc_maxcachememoryMB "2048" <<<< can be higher too e.g 4096 seta com_videoRam "1536" <<<<< your vram amount lol I still had 570GTX there The Evil within, can be adjusted for better resolution shadows (C:\Users\TJ\Saved Games\TangoGameworks\The Evil Within\base) image_anisotropy "8" image_useCompression "0" r_letterBoxMode "0" megashadow_resolutionScale "2.0" Default is 1.0 or 1.3 or so.. e.g. I remember 1.7 was the limit for 780GTX..
About AF, its bugged with 16x.. Apparently early ID5 limitation, it can cause blue textures and black checkerboard lines. That's why I used 12x.
Random section, bit messy. As the info states, weapon switches aren't my forté and I'm mostly using plasma/shotgun because those are my favorites and binded seperately. I also miss a rather easy shot at the start because my mouse felt a bit laggy.
My attempt at Doom in 4K using DSR. Looking at the artifacts, I'm guessing Shadowplay didn't appreciate me ramping the bitrate up to 130mbps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OOBx_nfR4s
