With the discount code, Doom is $32.66 at cdkeys.com

Valve doesn't set the prices, the publisher does. All they do is take a % of the cost.

yep, its the glorious agency pricing model which has led to bricks and mortar stores selling a tangible product for considerably less than the steam, pure digital, price. utter lunacy.

Thanks. BTW, to enable Nightmare settings you need more than 4gb vram.

    What the?

Ah well let's get rid of that, first let's add +com_allowconsole 1 and see what's available.

Hey it's still using virtual-texture / megatexture tech it seems.

There we go, there's the bastard locking me out of the higher settings.

    And it's done. :D

I knew it, I already said I thought it used megatexture tech due to the way the textures stream similar to Rage/Wolfenstein.

The download size should've given that away.

And the file and folder layout with it's "pages" named files and further file splitting between individual levels with their own cache file so yeah it seems they're using Megatexture version 2 or some such.

This was actually my first ever purchase from them so based on that yes :D
After currency conversion cost 30 € ie half the price on Steam.

This and other key sellers I've bought from apparently buy boxed copies of the game (directly from publisher/importer I'd assume?), scan the codes and resell them.

So they can buy "in bulk" and sell for much less than what "actual" digital keys cost from Steam.

PS: downloading now... holy moly, I think I just wet my pants from excitement!
    Not like that... :nerd:

It's not the same type of MegaTexture that RAGE and Wolf used.
This is a different setup, a different "style" of texturing. As the MegaTexture used in RAGE and Wolf didn't allow for dynamic lighting/shadowing which Doom supports.

at 1080p it runs 70+fps all maxed, ultra settings where possible. at 1440p I had to drop some settings to high, but I'm getting 55-60fps so it's ok. Could kinda do with a gpu upgrade, to be able to push 60+fps at 1440p with nightmare settings.
