    Well, but thats the point when someone makes a movie about a game,
    you automatically compare them.

    Dam, wish there was SOMETHING, ANYTHING to see with regards to the game...

    I wonder what engine they will use...

    It will use the "Id Tech 5" engine, the same engine on Rage....but as John Carmack said, Doom 4 wll push the engine to its limit...so it'll look much more perfect than Rage.

    As everyone knows by now Doom 4 is going to run at 30fps so this allows for much more detail and realism even if the worlds were the same size as in Rage. OK, not the best for fps, but, with cinema quality effects they might just get away with it due to the wow factor. It's got to be smooth though. Hope they can eliminate loading pauses.

    Last time the textures were relatively low quality. This time hopefully there'll be so much more detail we can actually see skin pores etc lol. All the bloody, veiny, gory, guts and puss nastiness of real-looking monsters! Yeah man!

    Nice guys, good to know the engine will be pushed to it's max and thus being used 100%

    Cannot wait for this game even though it's roughly a 2 year wait, hopefully it will be well worth it...

    someone mentioned doom 4 in the rage thread so i searched to see if a doom4 was in here.

    Any one keen to carry on with this yet - what you want to see in the game, possible story changes/additions um eg: (hang on just gona slip my flame retardent suit on) Not just about hell but throw in something to do with heaven. hell vs heaven with humans in the middle.

    Not original but cant say any popular tiles of today have done this yet or been successful in doing so and i feel that developers need get past this simple idea of (in 1st person shooters at least) near end of world/brink of world war 3, marines shooting some bad guys que next set piece are gona cut the mustered much longer, yes this stuff is tasty but kinda like that Big Mac after a while you want a proper meal even if your not a fan of vegetables .

    If doom 4 turns out to be just more corridor shooting and monster closets then i think i'll have to pass - pretty graphics, DooM logo or not. tiz why i skipped rage.

    It could work look at the Halo series or even prey, yes i know its not out yet but the from what i have seen, heard and read its really nothing like the first but they've kept the core events, not many devs are keen to drop their lead character, imagine if they did this on the second halo.

    oh and of course thoughts on the tech side of things also.

    Really not holding my breath for Doom 4. After the lukewarm reception that Rage got I think they have gone back to the drawing board with this one for a bit.
    They may wait for the next gen consoles to be released before they make it and tweak the game engine a bit.

    Why?

    They've been working on Doom for a few years now. There's no reason to take all that work, throw in on hold just because some fans think RAGE (while it sold and reviewed extremely well) had a poor reception.

    id did say they wouldn't directly talk about Doom, or release any media for it until after RAGE was out the door.
    And with RAGE being released, there's a chance we'll get some info on Doom up various events this year. QuakeCon is a good possibility for Doom media/news.

    Are there any real screens out as how the game will look like?
    Or what engine it's gonna use.

    Doom 3 is one of my favorites games, and the mods still make the game look fantastic by today's standards.

    I am hoping for a game as good as Doom 3 has been for me....i revisit it often :)

    This would be stupid.
    They've worked on this for some time now, no need to stop in mid-development because of Rage's reception, which wasnt that bad at all.

    I'm sure Rage did well enough, none of the reviews were terrible.

    Sales wise i imagine it did well on the PC, just because it was an id game, on the consoles i don't know, only one person i personally know played it and he only rented it.

    Not that it matters anyway, Doom is a still a huge name when it comes to gaming, no way would they abandon it.

    Hoping that DD services, and internet speeds have hugely improved by the time this is out, as i wouldn't like to see the quality of this affected by DD services in the same way Rage was.

    That was a rumor. Bethesda denied it, id Software denied it.... there was never any proof to back it up.
    Just a few game sites that were letdown with RAGE started throwing around how "because RAGE was such a disappointment, it wouldn't be surprising if id canned Doom" type BS.

    While some players (and some reviewers) were letdown with RAGE the majority of it's reviews score it in the 80s and above. With only a handful falling into the 70s.
    And the game sold very well. Maybe not as good as some were expecting, but it still sold a LOT.

    Doom is coming along fine.

    Vgchartz says

    Rage X360 -> 1.25 m
    Rage PS3 -> 0.92 m
    Rage PC -> 0.24 m

    Total Rage in 3 platforms -> 2.41 m

    Doom3 X360 -> 1.34 m
    Doom3 PC -> 1.07 m

    Total Doom3 in 2 platforms -> 2.41 m

    Doom3 PC sold 4.5 times more than Rage PC

    Doom 3 PC sold less than Doom 2

    Rage may have sold a lot more on PC if people thought they were buying a quality game. Unfortunately having LQ textures is a put off as it seems the game is of low quality. If you pay (whatever) for a game, you want to get something that looks good, especially if you invested in hardware to be able to actually play it. Even with all the texture improving stuff they added, the game probably looks good enough now to be 'passable', but not terrific! The only game that really has an excuse is Duke Nukem: Forever. If they make another new Duke Nukem, they definitely won't 'get away' with a half-hearted (or 6 letter bottom - ed word)! attempt at making it look good.

    Talking about a quality game, great to see you're still around Maldo :) expect a rush of eager people questioning you about the HQ Crysis 2 textures ;)
