Never used any tool to uninstall drivers, never had a ****ing problem.
    Ati install manager is enough.

    Old news is old.
Version 2.8.5 and up doesn't do that anymore, and 2.8.5 has been out ever since January.

Eastcoasthandle has actually created a thread (way back then) for fixing that.

Yea its old news and i really trust driver sweeper on how it cleans the left over files and registry's safely.

My steps of installing new drivers are this

    1.Download latest ati drivers pack
2.Extract the setup and run it.
    3.Use the express uninstall.
4.Dont reboot open driver sweeper check ati display and click scan and clean
    5.Reboot
6.Run the setup again and use express install thats it good as new.

I never had any bsods or other install errors while installing new drivers.
For me this software works great no problems so far been using it long time.

Well, if you did a quick google search you would find a place to download the files needed, unless you want to re-install windows... 2.8.5 + got rid of this problem.

No one knew SP1 would even check for those files. This was not even a bug. And was fixed as soon as the problem was discovered. The solution to the fix if already happened was also provided.
Get over it. It's safe now.

Ignorant people is ignorant; let them be.

The fact that he didn't know he could restore the files that DS deleted via Management -> Backup pretty much shows it, and DS always automatically backs up any files/registry entries it deletes.

Or the fact that he probably didn't know that TwL's or Von's cleaner can actually delete those same files without the chance of restoring the files (easily) if you don't have your Windows 7 DVD around.

I have been using Driver Sweeper to remove my old ATI drivers after I found out that I was having install issues over one year ago. Driver Sweeper fixed the problem I was having then. I cannot install SP1. I didn't know this could be one of the causes. I will try the steps suggested at the start of this thread to see if that fixes my SP1 issue. Thanks for the post.

What is the best way to update drivers then?

Just install over the old ones or first uninstall the old version?

Either way wouldn't hurt. Having said that, I still trust and use DriverSweeper. Its really funny I never had this crop up for me.. I had no problems installing SP1 and I use DS every time along with installing all of the latest AMD Hotfix drivers.

    this..

    or

    1. uninstall the driver in windows uninstaller
    2. dont reboot, run sweeper and clean ATI
    3. run CCleaner (registry cleaner) to see if it might left anything behind
    4. reboot
    5. install the driver

My way order in safe mode method.

    1. Uninstall the driver in windows uninstaller.
    2. Reboot to Safe mode.
    3. While in Safe mode - run sweeper and clean ATi drivers.
    4. Still in Safe mode run CCleaner (registry cleaner).
    5. Reboot to desktop.
    6. Install the driver.

I like this method because some files in used locked while desktop, Easy remove all files while in safe mode no problem ever since.

Everyone's opionions how they want to remove the driver with their pc.

Why does guru3d only have 2.10 drive sweeper. Do post 2.10 have spyware/toolbar?

It contains OpenCandy, an "adware" that gives you an option to install another software when you're installing Driver Sweeper, but not mandatory.
I used double-quotes due to the fact that it's not an adware per se (you're not installing anything by default nor without your consent), and that it has support from some big names such as Bing, CNET and Kaspersky.
While it does collect some info about your system, it's practically negligible and it's not anything that can be personally identifiable.
Compared to what Google Chrome collects, it's minuscule.

Maybe it's about time Guru3D pulls Driver Sweeper out of its download page, since it potentially harms more than expected when a reputable tech site still "support" a legacy software; I just hate it when people are blaming Driver Sweeper when all they use is an antiquated piece of crap.

Unless you're referring to the paid version, it's a snowball's chance in hell I'd still use that; 1.5 is simply too old to use.
Of course, if that's what works for you than I'm not one to argue; I'm just not too fond of using old apps, with the exception of some (like MWSnap).

I wouldn't recommend Driver Sweeper, even with the fixes listed above. I've had nothing but bad experiences with it. If for some reason you need to uninstall the drivers, the best thing to do is simply use the Catalyst Install Manager, reboot, uninstall the Display Adapter in the device manager, then reboot again.

I wouldn't recommend it either, but it works fine as my 'post-cleaning cleaner' to catch whatever my main cleaner didn't; my main cleaner is TwL's (genetix) cleaner.

It's just that when people blame it for being faulty while never got to realize they could actually rollback the cleaning process whenever a problem arises is what pisses me off.
