When you only have one card in it will be X16 unless actually locked not half via crossfire.
It's one of those strange boards. When I ran my 3-way setup it was in fact running 16x/8x/4x respectivley.
It gets the job done at those freq too.
....haha ok..do i need to take a pic of the mobo so u can see the slot used? its a single 4870x2 on the 4x slot..what do u want..benchmark + pic + gpuz ???
just need a benchmark now..and plz dont tell me a 4870x2 cant use a full 4x slot im not debating with u..i was simply asking if when u have two cards does it really go into th 16 8 4 8 mode..cause with a single card(which apparently u didnt test but yet assumed u did? or didnt pay close attention) single card in any given slot still runs at 16x..unless the benchmarks are off and gpuz is wrong.
Whoa, how the hell...
That shouldn't be possible at all. Look at the little capacitor looking thing about the PCIe slots, thats how you know what the slot is capable of.
The top on has 16 of them, the second 8, the 3rd 4 (the one your 4870x2 is on) and the last one 8 again.
Okay, if I'm wrong I'm sorry for the harsh terms. This is some interesting stuff, you may want to start a new thread though.
Kudos bro if you're right!
Btw, heres my run:
So again, I dunno how thats possible.
idk thats what its doing but its a single card..so im guessing they arent lock when u have just one card in it..and once u put in the 2nd card..then it changes to what it should..thats what i was curious how it really worked..because even evga said it til i showed it on there forum..so idk
Meh idk either.
EVGA lied to us! Nooooooooo!
let me ask u this..can u try ur 5870 in the 4x slot and see what u get? since its two cards instead of 3..and just see what happends? i def want an x2 and MAYBE a single but i wouldnt want them on the 2nd pcie slot..rather the 3rd if possible. if not oh well
I wont be able to try it for a while but here:
This is actually a really good read. Learned a lot from this article
oh yea i do recall seeing that..although i only looked at the 8x slot never the 4x...and i guess it aint much even at 4x..id still like to see if the 4x slot will run at 4 or 8x with only two cards..so whenever u get a chance id appreciate it
When I had my GTX260's in 2-way thats how I had it running.
One in the 16x slot and the other in the 4x slot. It showed 4x too.
Heres my score for it:
o ok..thats what i wanted to know..idk why evga would do that though...pretty dumb imo if two cards are there they could of had 16x 16x in any slot then if a third do 16 8 8 then 16 8 4 8 ..but whatever guess it doesnt matter much..just wont sell as good cause most people dont know this and SWEAR it kills performance..
Three of them kicks ass.
^ damn can u post benchmarks with the i9 es?
