    Title says it all...

As far as I know a 5830 (even overclocked) doesn't stand on even ground with well overclocked GTX460. Can ATI get more aggressive with it's prices to compete? As best as I can tell, camp green owns the FPS to Dollar market right now...

5850, overclocks further performs better and costs the same if not cheaper.

Here in the UK you can get 5850 for £200 asus reference

Gtx 460 1gb one is around £200 too.

Sure the less memory models are £152-£185 but they are not even close to 5850.

I am not wrong, my friend, don't be so blunt as to say somebody is wrong unless you are 100% sure.

As prices currently stand, the 460 is by far the better deal vs. the 5830 or 5850. However, ATI certainly have room to move on prices. The original launch price for the 5850 in the UK was £200, they currently retail near to £250 which was brought on by the TSMC supply shortage and the lack of competition from nvidia.

It wouldnt suprise me at all if ATI crashed their prices within the next month to compete with the 460. If they were similar price's, then the 5850 would certainly win.

The £200 5850's are special offers, and not an accurate indication of the actual retail prices, these will go back to normal soon enough, just like the £240 GTX470's did, it will have to be up to ATI to cut the prices.

    Saying that, a £200 GTX460 is as fast, if not faster than a a £200 5850 anyway.

I don't think so. The 5850 was £200 when it hit the market, then retailers bumped the price. Same goes for the 5870...OCUK are now selling 5 different 5870's back at £300. Same thing is happening with the 5850.

    Palit 460 1GB £193.86

    XFX 5850 1GB £199.74

Official word from ATI was no price cuts, but retailers are free to reduce their prices.

Ah right, just checked there, my bad, didn't know ocuk had also reduced the prices, hopefully it lasts.

Also saw a 5870 on there for £285, thats a great deal.

I would have thought ATI would have room to manoeuvre on price, they have been creaming it in now for a while in the bang for buck market!

Agreed... they can probably afford to cut their prices more than nvidia can right now. Im suprised they didnt already to spoil the 460 launch.

After seeing how bad the GTX465 tanked, no one was expecting the 460 to be the new 8800GT!

Yeah ati was caught off guard by this card. They will answer when the profits start taking a hit due to this awesome card. For now ati has the ball in there court still.

ATI just need to lower the price of 5830 and 5850 for 20-40$ and all be on their place again.

I'm guessing an overclocked 4890 would be a good matchup for the gtx460, I know its a previous generation card and no DX11, but its still a pretty good card.

No it wasn't, the price rise on the 5850's has nothing to do with TSMC ballsing up, its the retailers that have jacked the prices up, as when the 5850 launched, it was in a shorter supply than it was when they whacked the prices up to £250, er what, supplies have got better, so you put the prices up, should have put em down :)

I'm guessing but a o/c 460 would do even better......

Indeed, price increase was retailers doing after 5000 series was in such huge demand.

As I have already mentioned in this thread.

Actually there's not if you take price to price

... The question might be different if you speak of Highly OC.. a 5850 can be oc to 5870 level and further, and if we speak about real high OC the 5850 can pass the 1000mhz easy on core under WC ( are we enthusiast or we aren't? ) . Is the 5850 worth the extra money ?

Now AMD can only drop prices, i don't think they will release new middle range reference, before their new series ... But for high end market, i don't think they will do it untill Nvidia start to drop the price of the 480 and 470.

The XFX 5850 is up to £211.49 now though.

I know some people have issues with OCUK, but right now they have a GTX470 for £234.99 with Just Cause2 bundled in, and even a 5870 for £274.99.

    Zotac GTX 470 1280MB £234.99
    HIS ATI HD 5870 1024MB £274.99
