when i buy them they are usually new, since i am impatient.

I'm getting older and have such a huge backlog of games anyway that I just wait for stuff to get irresistibly inexpensive. Steam sales almost exclusively get my gaming budget.

    Truly depends on the game.
This year... I only see myself buying Wolf: The Old Blood and Batman: Arkham Knight at release.

The rest just doesn't interest me.

No, there are no publishers/devs left that I trust to release a working day 1 product. That and i like to see if theres news of a GOTY or "HD" re-release. Metro redux, never again will i fall for that crap.

It says alot though, when a gamecube game (RE:HD) works day 1, yet every other game over the last few years has been broken and required community mods to fix or stupid amounts of patches.

I buy all the rpg's that have spawned from kickstarter over the last years.
It's great to be a pc gamer now. (compared to just a few years ago).
And telltale games, i like those interactive stories.

AAA titles on the other hand, i do not buy until i seen a few videos or a good steam/origin/whatever store sale.

Haven't for years. The industry is too stagnant to reward developers $60.

Indie games are different. I would pay full price, but by the time I get around to playing them, they're already on sale.

There's about one or two games I'm tempted to buy at release date (or beforehand if there's preload), but usually I stick to sales. It's all Steam's fault.

Depends if I really want to play the game at release, if I consider it to be worth the cost and how much of a pre-order incentive there is.
Witcher3 and Arkham Knight are two games I have no issue paying full price for, I think those two are definitely worth it.
Something like Evolve on the other hand... I'll pick up for $20 or less.

I pre-order all of the releases that mean something to me. Games that slip under my radar I just buy cheap in sales.

Certain huge games from developers known to deliver, I buy.
Pre-orders in general is right out, too much hype and bullshots these days to believe anything.

Sad fact is the older I get, the bigger my library and backlog gets.

I've bought many new games in the past years at release.
Alien: Isolation, Wolf:TNO and South Park to name a very small few. Had no issues running any of these from day one.

And even a few that took some patches post-release (The Evil Within, FarCry 4 and such) I enjoyed the hell out of from day one. Yes, they could've and should've been released in better condition.
But, it's far from the first time I've played (and loved) a buggy game. Memories of Vampire: Bloodlines and Dark Messiah come rushing back. ;)
Lets also not forget that a game considered to be one of the "greatest of all time" was pretty damn buggy when it released. Deus Ex.

I'll continue to buy certain games at release, and others I'll wait for a discount.
Depends on the game. I know I'll buy the new Doom day one... if they ever announce a new Dead Space... day one.

Last game I preordered for the PC was Watch Dogs, learnt my lesson, I'll leave it a couple of weeks now until I'm sure it's worth my money.

I'm not BETA testing full price games for developers anymore.

I don't Pre-Purchase, and I rarely buy games on launch due to the current issues and review embargo's they have. I usually wait til at least it appears in a Sale like I did with The Talos Principle & its DLC at 50% off.

    Depends on the game.
Battlefield Series, up to Hardline(pass), preordered.
    Arkham Batman series- preordered.
    GTA5- preordered.
Most other games, I wait a couple of months.

    I don´t because i don´t think a game is worth 60€. Never pay more than 20€ for a game.

There was a time whe I would buy a lot of games on launch, but lately I avoid doing so.

Currently, it's almost always bad to buy new released games. The first problem is that most games are released full of bugs, some more grave than others, but it is still annoying.

Another problem is DLC, that will make a game a lot more expensive. This and the price of games at launch makes it very expensive.

If a gamer waits a few months, he can get the game at a much lower price and with a lot less bugs. If he waits a bit longer he can get a GOTY version with all the DLCs, for an even better price.

This means that a person that buys a game at launch will get an inferior product for a higher price.
