I don't use v-sync at 120Hz because my FPS rarely ever exceeds my refresh rate on BF3 at 1080p ultra settings (40 FPS Min, 70 FPS Avg).

Back when I used 60Hz I didn't use v-sync either, screen tearing didn't bother me much back than.

It wasn't until recently I was stuck using 60Hz that I realized how sh1t it was. I didn't play any games for nearly a month as I hated everything about it.

dont forget the noise and heat that comes with it. i limit all my games to 100fps max with the frame limiter (with 60hz display). dont want old games running at 600fps and fan blowing at full speed. also play left 4 dead games and CSS with that.

I just use nvidia inspectors frame rate limiter to 118 fps, and monitor at 120hz with vsync off, smooth as my babys butt.

wtf blind newbies issuing orders in NV section these days

    :biggun:

one day I could be using Adaptive, next time I'll fps limit and run vsync off.

    that's how hard I am

I only use v-sync when playing simulations... there's nothing more annoying than looking out at propellers that aren't in "sync" from the cockpit view ;)

For all other games I leave V-sync off since the tearing isn't any issue of mine... also sometimes turning of v-sync makes you able to draw advantage of some game-engine bugs .... *cough... Q3A* :)

I run with v-sync on all the time when playing games. I'm using a 120hz monitor so my fps is not capped at 60, it can go all the way yo to 120. Which is perfect with GTX 680 SLI

Similarly, some driving games look like arse without vsync.

I have used V-sync for countless years ;)
Simply put, I loathe the tearing which is painfully present on all games I play.
Yes, there is a tiny bit of delay when playing FPS games but I've learned to live with it.

Nowadays I got a GTX680 but if I use Adaptive V-sync the tearing is still there.

    WHy Not

With dual ASUS 680GTX cards in SLI Mode a i7 990EE and 24GB of DDR3 1600 and a 30 inch flat panel (Dell) my cards can out perform the Monitor, Vsync is not a Issue for me, in any of the games I play (Skyrim, ME3, Witcher2 EE, SWTOR, and WoW they all play smooth, the colors are great, and the FPS are always high.

    Yes.
Adaptive v-sync = no reason to ever have it disabled

Bandwidths a bit tight so I sometimes use other ports.

I use v-sync because I cannot stand the image tearing at all, Having v-sync on makes the image completely perfect.

In past 10+ years, i never used v-sync. Always tend to turn it off if possible (some game had it ON by default, and no option to turn off, example Midnight Club 2).

Never had problem with tearing (partly because i use CRT) and i know if picture is not smooth, it is most likely it is hardware/software problem before anything else. Because most people mix tearing with other problems, when in fact tearing is not their problem.

As much as I hate tearing (and yes, I do notice it) I do not like Vsync (input and camera movement is sluggish). I've gotten very used to it and I keep it OFF.
