    "bombastic"?

Anyway I don't think it needs to be perfect by any means but making no effort at all or deliberately spelling words wrong or using stupid 'chav' slang really annoys me.

That bothers me too. I've seen people say granite for granted. That's just f'in stupid - mixing up a type of rock with granted.

AFAIK only the US and Canada say "Aluminum" instead of "Aluminium", as it is spelt on most periodic tables.

People from other countries care to help clear it up?

he he, whilst Americans cant say Alluminium :).

I dont say alluminium, i say Ally.

Scottish and northern accents are a no go for me, i really have trouble understanding them, there nice people and all that, but cant understand a word they say.

when i heard Alluminium pronounced Alloowminum, me laughed, thought it was some new metal that had been invented, till i was told is another way of saying ally.

    ooops me dumb ass

he he, dont want to make this a America vs Britain thread, as we all have good and bad things.

im coming over for food thats for sure, nice size portions etc.

even though i need loose some weight really.

Brummy! And aint i proud of some of my family hehe...:3eyes:

Actually some northern accents irritate me (but strangely scots i.e glaswegian doesnt). U know the guy from big brother? "it's eiiiiight o'cloooock in the daairy room and Iiii got a stuupid aaaacent" (his accent..maybe yorks/gordie annoys me from time to time. but geoffrey boycott no)

actually accents in the uk are good. and generally the world would be a worse place without them...

re this thread i think we can all get the jist of what someone is saying. i personally dont give a damm if they use abbreviations or slang. it's what they are saying that matters to me.

ok if someone persists to write like wasssup i powned some noobs the other day...lawls...etc, it can get on my tits.

lots of southern ppl like to say youall just like the blacks. Like y'll wanan git sometin to eat. :3eyes:

Btw differences bet english pronunciation for loan words that originated from another language.

Like karaoke. It's pronounced KA RA OKAY but the americans call it KARI-OK.

Pariah is pronounced PA RIA but americans pronounced it as PA RAI YA there's no ya in pariah.

And nathan which they say ney turn but it's pronounced nar den over here and some even say na tan.

Because that's wha it is, the same way that a Missile isn't a "missle"

The same way Nuclear isn't "NUCULAR" haha.

Using more sophisticated vocabulary allows one to convey more sophisticated notions and finer nuances of meaning. As for using bombastic words to impress people, I think it is on a par with driving a humvee because you have a small penis. Please note that bombastic and sophisticated/advanced vocabulary should by no means be confused.

I say if a man can look me in the eye and speak to me in a friendly manner, I'm satisfied.
Are people really that snotty and judgmental they if someone has a regional dialect, they are judged by it? That's pretty sad :3eyes:

The Eastern US sounds different than southern, and the Cajun's sound different than the Californians.I'm not big on perversions of the language(Ebonics), but dialects are a different matter altogether.

Speaking from the American side of things, Ebonics is the one that gets my vote. Ebonics is almost like code...but not. Here's a sample and dictionary

    Ebonics Get's my vote.

Sometimes I like to talk where most people can not understand me.

I always say yall instead of you all.

yall is not just a black thing it is a southern hick thing as well.

    I consider it speaking casual.
Where appropriate I will speak intelligently so to speak.
