Not a very big surprise. These mosfets need SERIOUS cooling if you overvolt the card as they run well beyond specifications. For this reason I've wanted a custom 590 with at least one more 8-pin power input.

looks like AMD came out on top yes it louder but nothing like an aftermarket cooler should do the job

Why would they recall when it only happens during overclocking when you raising voltage. Not like overclocking was a feature outside the box. Simply dont raise the voltage over 1.0 problem solve.

Now if overclock was a feature listed outside on the box in big bold letters then it be something different.

It looks like my plan to OC the card to GTX 580 clocks has been shot to hell.

Should I be concerned if the card is factory OC'd?

After taking a look at my EVGA profile it turns out that it hasn't been shipped, they hadn't even charged my Visa yet even though the guy on the phone confirming my purchase said it would be shipped at that moment which was 6 hours ago.

If it's not shipped by tomorrow I'll just cancel it and get a 7800GTX or X1900XT seeing as games are regressing to DX9.....within 5 years games will have atari graphics.. /jk

Its not just overclocking/overvolting, the things are going BOOM untouched :D

It looks like EVGA has been smart to protect their investments (i.e. your card).

They stuck giant custom coolers on the cards. That may prevent this sudden death syndrome, but I don't know for sure.

    no they didn't, it's the same reference cooler..here have a look..http://www.evga.com/articles/00621/

also the cards are preclocked..to 630-1260-3456 from 607-1215-3414, looks like they are not risking anything the OC is very small, maybe some military class version will allow better OC.

    Dead card walking or mythbuster?
    stock clocks 697/990

I hate to even say this as a ovrclocker... its sorta like wishing for a console port for a gamer but they should lock down any voltage adding what so ever...that is if its not a mythbuster???

Those thermal images show the heat from the Coolers as not hot at all. Maybe the vapor champers are not working correctly? Causing the PCB to overheat. Maybe the Copper in the PCB is absorbing most of the heat instead of the cooler.
