"We heard you. @Oculus heard you. DiRT Rally 2.0 + Oculus = this summer… #RisetotheChallenge"

Apparently they will only include support for the Oculus, which would render the ViVE and WMR headsets meaningless.

In other words, more of the same (also happened with their previous game) and whoever stuff CM pockets full of cash will essentially get exclusive VR rights.

I hope that I'm dead wrong and it's not the case, but judging from DiRT Rally... :(

However I'm not going to pre-order the game, or yet alone buy it at full price, after having been burned in the past and will tread very carefully.

Yah, I'm not a fan of Rift exclusivity (even though I own a Rift).

You can get it working on the Vive using Revive:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/58i5gj/how_to_fix_revive_for_dirt_rally/

I'd rather it just worked out of the box for all headsets but the fact that they are including any kind of VR support at all has come as a welcome surprise.

Maybe they will support Vive this time around, we'll see I guess.

Even if they don't, no doubt someone will get it working ;)

Rift owner here and I'm pretty sure it'll work on other headsets. It simply has to.

Same here i love all Codemasters racing games especially online..
I need to make some space on my desk to setup my good old Logitech MOMO racing wheel.:)

5 more days i can't wait although i won't purchase until i read some feedback first.
I just also noticed that the game has already been cracked and released.
Codemasters are the only company still making really great racing games.

I just looked at steam and apparently the have a Deluxe version which gives you only 4 days early access for 20 euro more?
What are they thinking paying a premium to play 4 days before the actual release date.

Yah, I was mildly excited about this game and then they confirmed VR support and now I can't f*cking wait.

Even though I will have to wait a few months for the VR support, the original is a game that I still spend a lot of time playing and I have no doubt that I will be spending many hours enjoying it's successor.

Always online and you cant progress singleplayer offline?? Seeing comments in forum. And theres no mention of it on the store page by Codemasters.
    Hmmm. Pass.

I completely hate the few game devs that are playing the exclusivity card with vr, and vr is still a niche system so it can't afford to be doing this, Ubisoft is another company that have been pulling this crap, and even worse locking their vr store titles to hardware, case in point Star Trek Bridge crew, if you bought this on the Oculus store it won't start up in vr without Oculus hardware, so as much as i enjoy my rift i don't usually buy vr games from the rift or Steam store that are locked to specific hardware.

Apparently the game was made so that people who bought the "deluxe edition" get to play the game 4 days before everybody else, kind of sad really and makes you question their sanity.

Also announcing dlcs before the game is even out is kind of shady and from what I've seen on the steam forums from people who got to play the game early,

it's nothing short of DiRT 4 with the same lackluster optimization, force feedback (ffb) and always online RaceNet (drm) crap.

I'm not going to count out the game completely (can always try it for 2 hours for free on Steam and make a refund), but I won't do that until I've seen the reviews (less disappointment) and wait for a few patches.

    @RzrTrek

Lets hope not, although, as you say, in case of emergency, hit refund.

I must say that some of the videos I've watched make it look more like Dirt 4 and much less like Dirt Rally 1.0.

It just looks more arcade, although people like Jimmy Broadbent are saying the handling is better than 1.0, you never know with these f*cking youtubers (are they shilling or are they relaying an actual experience).

Lol, I just double clicked it and it launched.

I'll get back to you with my impressions.

    Update

So I messed about in a 240Z and Mitsubishi Space Star.

Did a few stages on the New Zealand Rally, happy to report that it is not arcadey.

It is similar to Dirt 1.0 but less forgiving, I couldn't open up the way I wanted to because I obviously don't know the courses but it is pretty damn good.

It detected all my gear, so the only thing I had to set up was the Thrustmaster Handbrake, which it did detect, I just had to assign the actual action to it.

The only thing I don't like is playing on a monitor, I doubt I'll give this too much time until the VR patch comes out because as most people who have driven in VR know, there is no going back to the monitor after you have experienced driving in VR.

^^^Yes, the only problem with vr is that once seen it cannot be unseen, games like Dirt rally, Elite Dangerous, Bride crew, Euro truck sim, American truck sim, once you play them in vr then never again will a monitor be good enough, once that vr immersion of sitting in the cab driving down to Dover to cross the channel, as you head off across Europe to deliver beans to Lidl in Germany, with your fave tunes playing in-game via the truck cab radio, and as you look left in your cab to see Darth Vader is sitting in the passenger seat.......once that has been experienced everything else is just too much a step back. Lol

So true, I just feel disconnected when I drive outside of VR now, cornering is unintuitive, and the sense of speed and motion in 2D just does not compare at all.

Anyway, from my limited exposure, I'm very happy with it and I am really looking forward to the VR patch come summer.

For now, I'll play it more to learn the stages than anything else.

Here is ACG's review, for anyone interested :)

well you think about it for hard core simmers whether talking car or flight, were already running triple monitor setups in large numbers, a vr rig next to that is more affordable and you can reclaim some desk space :p.

sims next to porn are a natural fit for vr.

I still can't wrap my head around why Codemasters made the decision to turn the game into a jigsaw puzzle simulator of dlcs from day one.

The lack of rally Finland (which also happens to be my favorite) was enough for me to question their motives and then we learned that we won't get any snow special stages until they release them as dlc,

but I get the impression that this is what they had in mind from the very beginning, i.e. release an incomplete product and incrementally drop the rest over the course of a year.

Also having to wait several months for a VR patch (when the game launch next week) to get the most out of your game (not even sure if it will work on ViVE) is kind of stupid and feels rushed.

Yah, I think DR 1.0 was a 'shot in the dark' to some extent, I mean they knew RBR and CMR were both popular niche games but I think DR 1.0 was at some level, a title they were not going to cry too hard about if it hadn't done that well.

As it turns out, it was a big success, the VR implementation was a big success and they never milked the DLC angle in the first one but there was no way the bean counters were going to miss this opportunity, especially when they knew there would be more interest from the outset this time around.

I think it's a good game but several things bother me about 2.0 (and some of them were present in 1.0 as well)

    - Can we please have full length stages and events (I know some people have short attention spans but they don't have to drive full rallies if they don't want to).
    - Lack of content, and now paid DLC to implement a snow stage, get the f*ck out of here.
    - VR, great that they are adding it, but why in 6 months and why only for one headset, exclusivity in general is stupid, VR exclusivity is very stupid as it seriously hurts adoption of a system that needs to encourage adoption, not hinder it.

I do like the game, but it seems (as usual these days) that financial concerns have taken precedence over the integrity of the product, and coming from a niche game like DR, I find that a little bit disappointing.

don t let the graphics reviews fool you, game looks identical to previous titles, it s barely better than dirt rally, optimization is pure shite , sorry but had to say it, with these graphics and 1080p dropping to 45 fps....!!! i don t know what s happening to the devs tbh, dirt rally was much more optimized than this.

Yah, I really don't care that much about the graphics in a game like this although they are better than DR 1.0.

This game is about simulating Rally driving, it's not a beauty pageant, and it does the former very well.

How can the graphics 'fool you', what you see on your screen is what is on offer and it looks fine.

Not sure how it is 'shite optimized' either, running at WQUHD/Max details, smooth sailing :)

Dirt 4 was buggy when set to ultra.
I put it down to DX11. I hope Codies have moved on with there API.
