I bought a new PNY 8800 GTS and tried booting my system twice with it. Both times the graphics worked for about 1 minute, then I got some artifacts, then the monitor kept blacking out. I put my original card back in and the system would not boot. Had to go into safe mode and restore back to the previous day to get the computer to boot. Now the computer is running very slow...
I either got a DOA card, or my power supply wasn't up to the task. My PSU is a 500W Spire rated at 29 amps on the 12V rails. PNY calls for a minimum of 400W with 26amp at the 12V rail.
Could a bad card or underpowered PSU have damaged my system???

    Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
4 Gig Ram (I found out too late this is not needed)

    Thanks - Dean

If you can try another card and the computer boots up fine then it's the 8800GTS. But if you do not have another video card lying around then your GPU is probably faulty.

Try another PSU. Maybe it just crapped out on you.

500W is enough for 88GTS....but it seems to be ur psu problem...u can try another psu for test purpose....

and ur system becomes slow....may be it need to reformat now >>>>
