Just ordered sandy bridge cpu new mobo and this ram http://www.********************/showpr...=8&subcat=1392 then realised the sandy bridge doesnt use tripple mem like my i7 does so have i screwed up or using the 3 sticks of ram will it would run as single or they run with two in dual channel and one in single or will i have to just use 2 sticks.
Well, since Guru3D censors OverClockers UK (no clue why), you need to list what you bought. Just buy an extra stick of RAM that matches your current OCZ RAM spec and you'll be fine. Yes, you lose triple-channel, but big whoop, unless you're doing memory intensive tasks, you won't notice a difference (games aren't memory intensive). You'll just need to make it so it's 4 x 2 GB DDR3. deltatux
Couldn't you keep the current Core i7's triple channel memory you already have and just add one more stick of RAM? deltatux
Im giving my brother my i7 rig so he needs my ram. For xmas i gave my brother my old qx6800 and mobo and my 5870 but i did notice a speed drop using just the 5970 so i bought myself another 5870 the other week. How it scales depends on the game and my main game i play is Iracing where i see no gain at all by adding the 5870 but other games its worth while having the trifre. new 3dmark 11 i get same score with just the 5970 so that doesnt scale at all and i did go back to try the 10.5s cats but still same but heaven 2 bench i get 50 fps with just the 5970 but it goes up to 80 fps adding the 5870 so its hit and miss on how well trifre scales and id only recommend it if you have deep pockets.
Thanks for you answer. I have actually been trying the tri-scaling with 3x5850 and found out the average gain was about 10-25%... long story short, i just wanted to know if they'd made anything about it :]
After i gave my brother my 5870 and i was down to just the 5970 my plan was to go for the new 6 series but i was disappointed by the performance of them and my 5970 is faster so when OCUK had a 5870 on special offer for £187 the other week i got another and went tri fire again as to get the same speed i would of needed to buy 2 of the new 6 series and run xfire so the cheap 5870 seemed the better alternative but i was hoping the 6 series would of bettered my 5970 as id rather have a single fast card than sli or xfire really.
I wanted to replace my 5970 with a single 6 series card is what i meant joe but to better my 5970 i would of needed a couple of them for xfire which put me off and having to use multiple cards i thought might aswell grab the cheap 5870 for trifire again. Sorry i didn't word my last post well.
Due note that the LGA1155 platform only supports x16 or x8/x8 and doesn't technically have support for tri-fire. Not sure if it's considered tri-fire on a 5970. Though, technically your setup will run as x4/x4/x8. deltatux
I run my 5970 in the x16 slot and my 5870 in my x8 to give more room between the cards because if i use them both in the x16s they are nearly touching and run very hot. I did benchmark them in then x16 v x8 and there was zero difference to frame rates. See how close they are together when using both the x16s http://sites.google.com/site/ayupfromdik/files/5970.jpg?attredirects=0&d=1 Also when using the x8 not only do they run cooler but i can fit my xfi card. This the new mobo ive ordered http://www.********************/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-432-AS The board also boasts 3 PCIex16 slots and enables CrossFireX/SLi Sorry it wont let me link it but its a Asus P8P67 PRO Intel P67 and says The board everyone has been waiting for has finally arrived. The P8P67 Pro board comprises of the LGA1155 socket for the 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7/Core™ i5/ Core™ i3 Processors and Intel® P67 Express Chipset with support for DDR3 2133(O.C)/1866(O.C)/1600/1333Mhz memory. The board also houses Bluetooth v2.1+EDR for the ASUS exclusive BT GO! Feature. There are also 4 USB3.0 ports available to the users, 2 mid-panel and 2 on the back. Audio benefits showcased by the board include 8 channels HD and DTS. The board also boasts 3 PCIex16 slots and enables CrossFireX/SLi allowing the use of multiple GPUs on board. Storage on the board includes 4 SATA 6Gb/s, 4 SATA 3GB/s and 2 eSATA (1 PWR eSATA).
If you read closer it says that it allows x8/x8/x4 connections if you add 3 cards. There isn't a x8/x8/x8 or x16/x16 option because the chipset won't handle it. deltatux
I have 2 cards so if its x16 and a x8 that's ok even if they both will run x8 there's no difference from my testing on the gigabyte board i have atm.
Did so e benches with my 6970 in all different kinds of pcie speeds a few days ago I can post a summary here tomorrow If anyones interested ^^
If i remember right didnt guru show the review early on the 6 series and then pulled it so they broke the nda.Ive been buying kit from OCUK for nearly 10 years and never had a problem with them everything ive ordered has arrived next day in perfect condition.
What YOU would call it....doesn't change the fact that it is a single card. An X2 card is a dual GPU/single PCB card...which does in fact make it a single card. Also, reputable sources have tested cards on x4, x8 and x16 PCIe configurations and determined that the difference in performance between x8 and x16 is negligible...whereas x4 does show a performance loss. While you may have not experienced issues with OCUK, others on this forum have posted complaints about their service. Also, Guru3D, being a reputable review site adheres to NDA's as best possible...whereas some other sites intentionally violate NDAs every chance they get.
Well if you were to think before you posted you could have realized something maybe... He was stating that he'd rather just be running a single card rather than multiple combined with SLi/cfx. That single card being a 5970 I corrected him and ment that the 5970 actually isn't a single card and so it uses cfx too. Sure it's 2 cards fitted and yielded on one pcb so u feel free to call it what ever y It is you wanna call it but to me it still ain't a single card as long as It supports cfx/sli
