Baffled by the outrage - it's the same system as the current one in D3. Did you thing they'd backtrack and revert to offline mode? The times of D1/D2 are long gone.
Well poe has a shop button on the interface but is not intrusive at all , and to their credit poe might be the only online game that never sold xp boosters/ drop chance boosters / any items that are anything else but pure cosmetic .....the pay to win factor in it is literally 0% , although I would argue few premium tabs and a currency tab provide quality of life that i can not see my self playing with out but by any means it does not hinder your ability to play the game and go toe toe with the rest of the players , the game you can play for free without any penalty or punishment to you because you did not open your wallet and eventually you will figure out if you like it enough to stick around or leave. Personally i play since close beta 2011 i think it was , and so far i spend about 60 euros on it with the hours i logged so far in this game i feel like i am cheating grinding gear games They played like that even on d2 prime it was always the case.
I mean, it's pretty obvious as to why it's going to be online-only; it's the only tried and true way to keep piracy waaaaay, way down as the only way to pirate it is to emulate the server functionality. If I remember correctly, it took 1-2 years before diablo 3 had an emulated server to make it playable for free, and the process to set it up was of course too much for most average folk. Beyond that it's also a great way to stem down cheating as decision making happens server side instead of client. Even beyond all this, It's always kinda shocked me blizz went this route when the server management is also more dosh needing to be spent, and if they ever go poof, well there goes the game as well...
On console D3 is playable completely offline and on another website I read that this news applies also to console versions.
It's not like it's coming out anytime soon. People wanted D4 announcement and they got it. I said it a year ago, all Blizzard had to do is announce D4. Hell, if they ran a 5 second video with nothing but the letters "Diablo IV" on the screen, people would be buzzed. We just wanted to know Blizzard are indeed working on a new proper Diablo game. And we got it this year. The game is pre alpha as we speak, it'll take years to come out. Fine by me. BTW, why is the always online thing even surprising? It's the best form of DRM. Look at console versions of D3, full of duped items, utter joke.
Yes. Do you have a oven at home? Probably, but that's not a good argument to use it as storage case (+1 kudos for the oven: it doesn't make your game lag or crash, nor it doesn't add additional delay to process your input).. Plus I may wanna play it on my laptop/tablet in mobility or where I cannot have a good or stable connection.
What feedback? Also, I hope Blizz go heavy on cosmetic MTX, similar to what PoE are doing. If they have a gold mine from selling MTX they will be inclined to work on content for the game for years to come. This is why D3 had hardly any content updates over the years, because the game is not making money and you can't have a full team working on something that is not profitable. You can't simply have developers working on something day in day out and not bring any money in, that would be a suicide. Best thing that can happen is they make sure they bring the $$$ in to work on the game for years after release.
This fuels, play it forever engine.. if it would be offline, you can just have fun and cheat some high level different character just to have fun and with old games.. but not you have to work.. exping and grinding..
if they kept the same f2p mobile mechanics no thx - leveling through items "only" is pure dev laziness, it's zero work to just raise the rolls on items and call that leveling, it should be like borderlands or other games, more skill points new skills or even branching to a new sub-class not just "go grind better gear and pay to reroll stats" - the worst offender : skills locked behind items you have to grind, wth >< d3 had lots of skills completely useless without item or set X, unacceptable ! items should be a boost to an existing build not the entirety of it, a set is a set not a build ! (requiring mana regen, health steal or whatever is different, in D3 the skill radically change and of course is ultra weak without the item) and btw at the end of the 1st season of D3 Blizzard erased my gear so that was it for me, uninstalled immediately, when recovering my items 90% of my gear had disappeared all my gems and materials (their reply "too bad just play some more and you'll get them back")...so yeah...game over for me...you do not mess with player items in a freaking arpg !!! like Bethesda after F76, D4 would have to be the ultimate best arpg for me to consider playing
When visiting family that's 80+ years old they don't always have WLAN at home, no car, and I'd like to have something to do besides being bored after dusk. On the other side, read two books in two weeks...
I just told the world (and hopefully a few lurking ceos) what I would have preferred, but i guess we're not in kansas anymore.
1) PoE doesnt have pop up messages. 2) its completely free 2 play. 3) they only sell cosmetic stuff, nobody forces anyone to buy them., also, we the community asked for the in game shop for the mtx. 4) i play since alpha, they have a loooooooooooooooooong term plan without bullshit. I dont care if diablo is online only, so far i like what i hear about diablo 4 with expansions and the open world, i hope they deliver.
