1. hey guys, id really apprieciate any help here. I have a hercules 3d prophet 2 mx video card. Every time i try to use ANY drivers higher than the 6.50 drivers, it doesnt let me set my screen resolution higher than 640x480 and gives me 2 monitors (Compaq FS740, default Monitor). Ive tried every driver imaginable from the 7.52's to the 12.90s. I also tried using an old 15 inch monitor and everything WORKED but id really like to get it to work on my brand new 17 inch monitor.
the two monitor thing happens to everyone.
your refresh rate/rez, get your monitor drivers installed and that should do it.

when you go to install the driver, hit have disk, then point to the inf file.

  5. Thats the problem. I dont know where the compaq "SoftPaq" program unzips it to.
unzip anywhere and when windows asks for driver location (after you click on have disk) point at the location you extracted the files into.

  7. Darn!!! still dont work. It gives me 640x480 res and doesnt have anything higher that that on the slider. And when i try to set my refresh rate it says "cannot change setting. Please cleck device manager"

    Wait a minute...
Is your present display drivers the standard VGA ones? I reccomend you retry again from it and then if you know your monitor model and have the inf file:
1) Go to Monitors in System Properties in Control Panel
2) Upgrade Driver...and choose the 2nd option (Display a list...)
3) Show all hardware...find your monitor model and choose it
4) When ask for Win CD or anywhere else, point to where the inf files are
It should install the right drivers, solving most problems you're having now.
If you're still not able to work this out, tell us more of your problems, we'll try our best to help man. In the meanwhile, you could download PowerStrip (latest build 180+) as it will allow you to adjust the resolution, refresh rate and colour (to your reasonable requirements) with no difficulties
