Hey guys, I have a problem, I am running a PIV 1400, with ME, and When I defrag my 20 gig, The defrag gets interupted every 3 minutes, Because the contents of the drive have changed! Now, I am not stupid, I am not doing anything on the computer at the time, in fact I closed everything down except Explorer. And it is still interupted! Any ideas!????

Thanks,
Nick
Some programs can run without Windows knowing about it.
I had the same problem awhile back. Black Ice was running and
no evidence of this was to be found. You may have to hunt it down,
or do like the man said and defrag in safemode.
Yeah, either defrag in safe mode or check your start up group and disable a bunch of stuff, not systray or explorer though.
I have Visual Studio installed, so I use process viewer to kill all possible processes (which can be killed of course)
Try disabling the screensaver and anti virus program before defraging . Also, delete the files in the Recycle Bin, the browser cache (Temporary Internet Files folder if using MSIE) and the Temp, History and Recent folders. Corrupt files can cause Defrag problems as well . Like some of the guys said already, either reboot to safe mode and run Defrag from there or use EndItAll, a free program which shuts down nearly all running programs except Explorer and Systray. Download the program from here:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/brian.biggs/
This site got some pretty tweaks also. Hope this helps .
I used EndItAll. It told me to walk in front of a MAC truck. Instead I walked in front of a HAZMAT truck. It missed. It swerved and rolled over and spilled its guts. So, I have to get back to cleaning up the mess.

Shut up Frank! Go fall in the feces yourself!!!! OH
Read posts about "elementary Scandisk problem". Master Guru, I believe, suggested running msinfo32.exe. Read his post, follow the directions. Shutdown everything but explorer and systray, restart, and there you have it! Worked like a charm!

Mike
