but why rt looks really good and it's affordable if he's willing to spend 900 on 6800 he's correct he should have it stupid thing to argue

You're missing the point, it's the rendering performance I'm considering here - next gen, needing to use DLSS, likely going to have to pick DLSS Performance.

I don't understand why you get so hot and bothered about this topic. We have to consider the OPs requirements, they do indeed have RT as a consideration, but they stated their games they play, which mostly consists of shooters, they're playing at 1440p and that's at 165hz

how do you know that ?
and how does this surprise you ? requirements grow all the time, not a reason to pick worse cards for the present day
why ? is that what he's asking for ? I think the focus should be to make him spend that money the best he can atm not shift goalposts all the time

Yes it is. The RT portion is just a consideration. Not a requirement. And spending that much money, this late on the generation, to get RT performance that requires DLSS to get usable frame rates... is imho not worth it.

Hence save the cash, get the 6700XT and don't worry about RT for now.

Goalposts? Come on you're better than this, we know you love RT and you want to have people enjoy it as much as you do which is noble and all but we're taking into account of the games he plays, resolution and refreshrate/fps requirements and also checking longevity requirements, even with the next generation of GPUs that are just around the corner.

you know he can just turn off rt to match the rasterized settings turn on dlssq and blow that 6700xt into the orbit ?
we all know when rt will really matter, when radeon runs it same or 0.0001fps faster than nvidia
then +60 fps won't bother people as being too slow

Because it's not worth spending over MSRP this late for that price/performance ratio imho.

that is a problem indeed but is it worth investing 400 out of 600 into a card with worse performance and quality features. imo he'll regret it same way it when rtx 40 arrives soon if he's buying now why make him feel bad about getting the most out of the present offerings

Youre gonna want a card with DLSS. There is no way around this. If you buy a card that lacks hardware for DLSS, or whatever AMD calls it when they add it next gen, you are gonna be left behind.

NVDIA has CUDA and DLSS. NVIDIA also has better encoding capabilities. None of that is going away any time soon, so NVIDIA GPUs retain more value over-time.

In my opinion, this is the most relevant point in this whole discussion. Nobody should buy a card now for anywhere near the MSRP (let alone over it), unless they absolutely need one right now and there's no way around it. An expensive card is even more troublesome because a considerably cheaper new card will kick its ass a few months later. That's asking for regret, unless you have a well-tempered mind. No video card will "retain more value over time", unless we enter a new mining craze.

I've already abandoned the idea of a new card from this aging generation, especially since the discounts never arrived in Finland. I pray my ancient card will keep functioning for a little while longer.

You are sure a very angry man :D I dont think 3070 will blow anything into orbit except itself since its performance is similar or worse to 6700XT. Also the price is higher ... the TI version is better but not orbit style anyway. You sound like you are promoting RT and only a few games support it.

Raster performance is on the other hand a future proof if the RT will not be used that much in future games the card that is faster without it is better in the long run. You have been told a few options but only the one you think is the best you consider.

If you had a 6800 or 6800XT or even better instead of that 3060TI you would have said otherwise so please ...

I suspect that if this card is intended to stay in the system for a long time, the nvidia card will probably be the better option, since the ray tracing performance will be more important in the future.

I hope future brings those games where raytracing is actually worth using becouse current stack are meh (besides few exceptions).
