    Hello everyone,

I'm looking at purchasing a new Video Card for my daughters computer. I am aware that the new release of video cards are due to be released in the next few months, however I'm looking to buy now and not wait.

    System
    CASE - NZXT H510 Elite
    CPU - AMD Ryzen 5600X
    RAM - 16GB DDR4 3200MHZ
    MOBO - AMD ROG STRIX B550 Gaming-F
    PSU - MSI 850W MPG Gold+ Rating
Monitor - MSI Optix Curved 32" 2560x1440 165hz Refresh Rate 1ms Response Time

    Games
    Overwatch | Overwatch 2 | Roblox | Minecraft | Star Stable | Call Of Duty | Warhammer: Vermintide 2

    List of video cards
    AMD Radeon 6700XT - Buy ASUS Dual Radeon RX 6700 XT 12G Graphics Card [DUAL-RX6700XT-12G] Online | Kogan.com. .

    AMD Radeon 6800 - MSI Radeon RX 6800 GAMING X TRIO 16GB Video Card - RX 6800 GAMING X TRIO 16G | Mwave

    Nvidia 3070 TI - PNY GeForce RTX 3070 Ti XLR8 Gaming REVEL EPIC-X 8GB Video Card - VCG3070T8TFXPPB | Mwave

    AMD Radeon 6700XT - $585 AUD or $407 USD or £335
    AMD Radeon 6800 - $899 AUD or $625 USD or £514
    Nvidia 3070 TI - $899 AUD or $625 USD or £514

The 6700XT is at an incredible price and seems really hard to overlook at that pricing. Given the games that are played, any one of those 3 video cards are likely MORE than capable, however I'm looking to future proof as best I can so when and if future games come out the PC can run them just fine.

Raytracing is likely to come into the equation though neither my daughter or I have ever used raytracing and I'm not even sure if any of the games that are played are even capable of running raytracing which may for the moment rule out as any sort of benefit?

I've read a lot of reviews and from what I can tell the 6700XT is meant to rival the 3070, however the 3070 TI is certainly in a league above the 6700XT. So I'm assuming it's going to be out of the 3070 TI and the 6800??

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

P.S - Though I've mentioned neither of us have ever used RayTracing, if I'm going to spend $900 on a video card I'd rather choose the one that has the capability to do so if we ever wanted to, then spend the $900 on a video card that just can't manage any reasonable FPS at 2k resolution?

    Thanks again,

Looking at the games you play you'd be more than fine with 6700xt. It is very much capable running them at 1440p. That said i would go that route as i dont recommend spending much on a gpu atm.

Thank you for the response, and good to know. What card would be the better future proofed option and even currently performance wise out of the 3070 Ti and the 6800?

Again, I have tried to do my own research and review articles / performance ratings etc but given they’re identical in pricing, the 3070 Ti seems to have just that bit extra grunt versus the 6800, not to mention is far superior with ray tracing compared to the 6800?

3070ti have only 8gb vram and already started having issues with some games especially with raytracing enabled so the superior rt performance statement is mute here.

Oh wow. Thank you for letting me know, I was really starting to lean towards the 3070 Ti if not the 6700XT.

Very good to know that if I end up spending $900 AUD / $530 USD that I’m better off sticking to the 6800 for overall performance at 2K resolution,

    Thank you

why ? it doesn't run faster in rt ? better buy a card that doesn't do rt at all is that what you call a better option ?
8g is fine for rt as long as the developer doesn't botch it it makes no sense to me to advocate something that's not designed for rt at all as an alternative
8g is quite limited but let's not hide reality 3070ti will murder 6800 with rt on and play pretty much everything with rt on comfortably. it's not like he should buy it at this point but out of his choices for rt it's the only one,amd only have worse alternatives that will provide you with smooth 35 fps

In pure raster 6800 is a faster card and if we talk futureproofing its a better option.

imo best advice is to wait for next gen no option is really that great here
    also,no dlss on amd

Best option is not to spend to much thats why i recommended 6700xt at 400$.

for a worse card,it'll be more than enough for his games, just no rt as he asked so not really "futureproof"

3060ti is also an option if he can find one at similar price to 6700xt.

None of the game listed either have RT at all or do, but it's not worth playing in. Future proofing isn't worth really considering at this point and performance levels. Plus an 8Gb is far from future proof at all. The better idea is like Undying is saying, spend less for good raster performance on what they play today. If they want RT in the future, buy then and not now.

    Fair enough.

But RT it's not worth considering on any of these really if your thinking forward. The 3070Ti barely handles heavy RT stuff right now with DLSS 2 Quality and it's only packing 8Gb of VRAM.

It's a tough spot really. Because the only card with really decent RT performance, has too little ram to be in a great spot from a future perspective. Which is why I think the 6700XT is the better bet as it considerably less money and won't run into vram issues in the future. And just call RT a wash.

look at where 6800 is in comparison and it's 900 as well blows my mind how a card that's slower than 3060ti and can be called better against 3070ti look how 3070ti outperforms 2080ti 11g every time
your advice is spend the same 900 and get no rt at all cause it's more futureproof just to run rt off
and im not sure giving up dlss is good advice either

No, I recommend the 6700XT. Save the money and call RT a wash.

And 60-83 fps right now in the heaviest titles doesn't bode well for future use.

Gonna be a pedant here.... 2k resolution is 1920x1080 (the horizontal resolution being rounded up to 2000). If you're referring to 1440p, that's 2.5k 2560x1440.

The guys there arguing about RT, here is some food for thought. These "midrange" cards currently need to use DLSS/FSR to make RT viable at 1440p (so it's rendering at a lower resolution), newer games that come out are going to challenge these RT capabilities even more.

It's nice to have the RT but it'll be a short lived experience, I would just buy the best card you can afford that costs the least and enjoy it.

why ? it's the heaviest rt there is full resolution rtgi+rtao+rt reflections + rt shadows not amd's weak ass quarter res
been hearing that since turing if it's nice and costs the same on nvidia as on amd then why not
sour grapes rx6000xt's all over this thread
 then go buy yourself a card that's going to play witcher 4 4K/60 now o_O
60-80 fps isn't enough for the rt hating crowd these days, with rtx40 it's going to be unplayable at 100

It's also worth noting, they have a 165hz monitor, turning on RT will mean losing out of the high refresh rate responsiveness and smoothness (sure stable 60fps/hz gameplay is good but if you've tasted high refreshrate gaming, it can be hard to go back, particularly in shooters) so I'd say overall raster performance should be the the focus here

Because it's not worth it at $900 bux. It's not a great price/performance ratio at this point and this late. Where as if you just call RT a wash and go with the 6700XT you will save a nice chunk of of money. Money that is better saved and spent on an upgrade later for a card that will have better RT performance than the 3070Ti and more vram.
