Sorry, what? You win so by defintion you 100% know the contest can't be rigged so how can you understand a position that is 100% factually incorrect?

It's pretty abnormal actually, and does beg the question given that you have only been here since Oct this year making this your first run as a member at one of these contests, IF it is normal to believe that these contests are rigged why did you even take part in them? Or is it a simple case of I didn't win ergo the contest is rigged? Either way neither of these responses is typically normal even less so when their is no actual measurable benefit to rigging the contests?

To be honest I am not really sure what angle it is your aiming for with your posts in this topic. The first was a pretty off hand and stupid comment, which if it was said with even a hint of sarcasm I could see but given that your second and third posts have been outright insults to anyone questioning on commenting on the nay saying snowflakes who some how believe that because they entered a contest they should automatically win it just comes across that you are annoyed that you didn't win.

Here's the normal thing that the folks who didn't win do, they don't assume that the contest is a fix, they don't go off on one acting like they had some god given right to a prize because they entered they sit there and say, 'damn didn't win anything this time round gotta say I am a wee bit disappointed but congrats to all the lucky folk who did win enjoy your prizes' one sentence, then move on.

Hypothetically there could be a ton of reasons beyond someone just wanting to retain monetary value, one could be keeping the spoils within a loyal fan base rather than rewarding people who just visit the site just for the comp then disappear. It doesn't help the conspiracy theorists that most of the winners commenting seem to be long time guru3d members, I mean considering the reach of such a comp on social media you'd almost expect mostly newer accounts to post here saying "thank you" for winning their prizes...

But I digress, the biggest issue I'd say is that there is no livestream or screengrab even of the draws which while a lot of these sites these days don't seem to do considering the time & effort most participants are putting into these logo hunts vs other comps it would be reassuring to see the results in future.

If Hilbert really wanted to give prizes long time members then i would have won zero!!! Because there are here guys who are "older" than me and are much more active than me. I have now around 2.000 posts, there are guys with more than 10.000 and over 10 years of membership so the long term status membership doesn´t count here. Right now some of those members must be reading my posts and thinking: Why is that lucky idiot winning stuff and i don´t win crap in all those years...
But if i was Hilbert i would require all the contestants to have at least 100 posts and 1 year of membership to prevent some guys to only show up at Guru3d to enter the contests and disappear the rest of the year... Even worse those guys are the ones that complain that the contests are rigged...

As for the livestream or screengrabs, those would be useless. Anyone can manipulate them easily before they go live to achieve the wanted result, so the same people would that complain that the contests are rigged would then complain that everything was staged and rigged anyway...

Bottom line, if people still continue to think that this giveaways are rigged, then just stop participating in them. I just hope those guys don´t have multiple accounts in different hardware sites to enter contests/giveaways and then complain in every forum that everything was rigged...

I never once personally accused HH of rigging this I said it could hypothetically be one of the many reasons in a competition like this as you cited there would be no monetary value to doing it. As for the older account thing, I didn't mean people that were here since the dark ages. It's just a weird irregularity that there's no newer accounts with smaller post counts claiming they've won here & at the same time you've got people claiming to have won these comps twice in a row... maybe they should head to a casino with that type of luck as they might win a lot more than a Titan X is worth.

Don´t worry i wasn´t accusing you in particular of anything, i was talking more in general terms.

And i was the one who won twice in a row, last year year i won a Pallit GTX1060 and this year i won the MSI GTX1080ti Duke. If i wanted i could have stayed quiet and said nothing about it but i don´t have anything to hide and i think it´s normal to talk about the prizes we won in an hardware forum... It was just a question of dumb luck! Or maybe this is simply a modern love story because i like Nvidia GPUs and Nvidia also seems to fancy me a lot and maybe this is the way Nvidia shows her affection for me... I love the shy type... Quiet at the beginning and crazy once they catch us alone...
And i already tried my luck at the casino and at the lottery but with no success... Like i said before, it seems my luck starts and ends in Guru3d... But don´t worry, i´ve been so lucky in these 2 last years that i+m gonna skip the next contest so someone else can some great stuff.

It´s not a question of defending myself, i just find amusing the idea that someone would rig a competition like this and the crazy theories people come up to back it up...

the odds of winning with only 100 entries = 1/100 = 1% = not good

now do that 1000+.....pick a number between 1 and 1000 to then click tab

    461 you lose :D

I thought this was an objective, normal IQ person; I see I was wrong.

1-) 1 year of membership 100 posts, so you can get higher chance of winning right? you poor bastard ; )

2-) no need to livestream or screengrabs : ) look at the explanation after this.. what kind of imbecility is this?

3-) this is the first time I entered a forum contest. and if I knew there will be nothing to trust for in the end, I would never enter in the first place.. so relax. you will have higher chance next year ; )

apparently you rely too much on people you never knew. you were trusting your wife also too much. but she ****** with me you know that ; ) take care!

    ignored. .

It's the same old story every year after the list of lucky winners has been published. If I was at HH place honestly I would be pissed at least EVERY TIME to see such a negative comments from few members here EVERY YEAR and iirc he was feeling like that few years ago. If I was on his place not sure if I could control my anger and disappointment so many times after all the hard work, especially that last month of the year maintaining the site and besides that trying to get some good and expencive stuff to G3D readers base. It's just nerve wracking and I'm sure HH asked himself more than once: do I really need this?

Why ffs some people are so desperate to won something? It's not Olympic Games God damnit where you work hard and prepare for years to be better than everyone else, to won something, to achieve something and again how lucky you are atm plays a great role even in those situations. Here @ Guru3D December contest it's just a game: giving right answers, logo hunt... few hours of your life at most, total.

Never won anything here @ Guru3D in material way, but knowledge I'm harvesting here every single day is more valuable to me than anything else I could get and hold in my hands like those fancy graphics cards, SSD"s, cases and whatnot. No doubt everyone has it's lucky moments sometimes, somewhere. Few regular members here won prizes more than once, they were in the right time on the right place, hey backthen my best man was lucky enough to drag more then one chick through his bedroom per night when he was younger (once he even managed to get three chicks per night, one by one of course, but guess he wouldn't complained if they were all together on the pile lol, lucky bastard), once my older son managed to get two gold medals and one silver on local karate competition in just one afternoon... Sometimes stars are looking at you, most of the times it's nothing more than: plain luck, simple as that. If you didn't get anything here @ Guru3D remember that moment next day, evening week from now, month later when you get that unexpected "lucky moment".

At least I'm happy to see some familiar faces here on Guru3D who won something.

Now excuse me I need to take a dump, I'm getting way to emotional tonight lol

I don't understand this mentality of these people claiming it's rigged, we have what (including myself) 6 confirmed winners that are frequent members of the Guru3D forums out of 22 winners total... I've been a member of these forums since 2007 (but frequently visited the website since 2005) and I've taken part in nearly every contest and it took me 11 years to actually win something. Look at @blitz72 he's been a member since 2004!!! And this is the first time he's every won something (as is the case for me too).

It is natural to assume that forum users are going to have a higher chance of winning. Why? Because they follow the website, they take part in discussions, they read the news and read the reviews so, chances are they're going to participate in the events, since they know about them but if it were rigged, we'd see a higher percentage of forum users that have won but to imply that it's rigged for forum users well, first of all, wouldn't it be forum exclusive then? Second of all, people are supplying their name's and addresses, the only thing that'll link a person's entry to the contest is their email and in my case, I didn't enter the contest with the email address I use on the forum, I used my personal email address, the one I use for professional contacts so there was no way to distinguish my forum account from that email address - heck even look at Hilbert's response when I said I won, he didn't recognise my forum account in the list of winners...

Lets take a look at the numbers of contest winners, 22 and the confirmed forum winners is 6 so, 6 / 22 = 0.27, 27% so just over 1/4 of the winners are forum users and as for the rest? Well they haven't revealed themselves but it wouldn't surprise me that these winners don't even have forum accounts, perhaps they come from youtube? Perhaps they're subscribed to the mailing list, perhaps they just read the news articles as part of their RSS feeds...

Whatever the case, anyone who enters knows that the likelihood of winning is low, Hilbert even mentioned that some contests saw relatively few entrants (so under a thousand) so if we assume 500 that's 0.2% a chance to win, and those instances are rare with the highest chance for a single entrant to win but the fact is, this isn't gambling, you're not paying for a chance, it's free, you put your name in the hat, if it comes out, great stuff, if it doesn't? Just carry on and try again next time. Gambling on the other hand such as playing on bandit machines or playing the claw game, those are rigged because the house always wins, you have to put money in and they will only give a prize once the machines have banked enough money to make a profit. So if this prize contest was rigged, what does Hilbert have to gain from giving the forum members all the prizes? If we were talking economically, it would make more sense to rig the contest for people that aren't members of the forum, because that would generate news outside the forum telling the world to go look at this website so that it can generate new revenue.

Eitherway, the work Hilbert and the staff at Guru3D do is amazing, I love coming here to get my fill of tech news and participate in the discussions with the rest of the community and the real prize that's worth taking away is that Hilbert doesn't bullshit us, we get the news as is, we don't get some stupid ads that block everything, we don't get clickbait, we get honest reviews and honest opinions and that's what matters, the prize contests are just fantastic bonuses there to say thank you to the community.

Once again, thank you Hilbert and thank you Guru3D! :)
