No gameplay footage was ever released though was it? I only remember seeing CG which is meaningless.
Wow I completely missed that thanks, guess it's because I never watch YT gameplay videos because of the terrible bitrate, probably waited for Gamersyde to get it then forgot about it!
Yeah, they released a couple bits of gameplay.
But, the melee combat never looked that solid. It just didn't feel like there was a sense of weight and force behind it.
Who is the new dev? Already announced?
Haven't announced anything.
They haven't said specifically if Yager's version of Dead Island 2 will be continued, or if it will be restarted under a new studio.
Iron Galaxy Studios
Yeah... cause that's so funny.
Seen that joke about thirty times over at IGN's comment section.
And, besides, they are looking for a developer. Not someone to port it to PC.
Deep Silver is remaking or well, updating Dead Island 1:
I'm still playing the hell out of Dead Island.
Wait, so we need to buy the game again to get tho's new fancy graphics?
Yes Deep Silver (Whom Techland separated from and then made Dying Light.) retains ownership of the Dead Island franchise and attempted to make Dead Island 2 with Yager, however they halted development because of I think Yager cited creative differences on how the game should be and now Deep Silver is re-releasing Dead Island 1 (And Riptide? Probably just the base game.) on XBO, PS4 and also PC with some enhancements but yeah you'll have to buy it again and I don't expect there to be a discount for existing owners but we'll see.
EDIT: It might be a update for both DI and DI:Riptide having re-read the announcement message.
EDIT: And this video or well it's content (Fist of the North Star homage.) will apparently feature in this updated version of the game as well via some powerup for unarmed combat?
While I loved Dead Island and Riptide the reality is Dying Light does everything that both these games does and my god does it do it a whole f*cking lot better and that's before you add in all the stuff, like the free running and the Volatiles, that Dead Island doesn't do.
This screams of a company that is desperate to win back the money it invested in DI2. It's seen the folk from Techland split away and make their game which is better in just about everyway, they have seen their attempt at DI2 fall flat (last I heard was it was going to be some multiplayer affair with no single player aspect) and now they are just doing whatever they can to recoup the cost.
Not sure how that works like I said I loved Dead Island but I sure as hell ain't forking out for a 'hd remastered' version of a three year old game, especially one that has been surpassed by a game that is still getting active updates and new content today.
This game is still somehow alive.
Techland dropped the series because of "issues" working with Deep Silver. Which is why they went on to make Dying Light instead of a full sequel.
Then Yager has "issues" with this project and are let go.
I don't have a lot of faith in this.
When it's £5, maybe.
I really liked Dead Island, rough around the edges... but still enjoyable.
So, part of me is holding out hope that this one turns out good. But, I have serious doubts.
Considering the development trouble, Deep Silver being... well... them (hard to work with) and the fact that we have a studio inexperienced with FPS/melee driven games picking up were another team left off.
Well im glad DI2 didnt died just like that but i dont have high hopes for this. Techland needed to make this.
And Techland wanted to make a sequel.
Hell, after Yager was "let go" they expressed an interest in making DI2. But, they don't want to work with Deep Silver again.
They've never been clear on what actually happened that soured their experience with that publisher, but... it's the reason they went off and shopped for a new publisher and made Dying Light instead.
Some more screens have surfaced from Dead Island: Definitive Edition, now with 100% more chromatic aberration.
