Does the PII 720BE has any issues running 1600 ddr3 memory?

All information I've seen indicates that the Phenom II procs are designed to work with DDR3 1333 at most, which I find sort of weird considering how many AM3 mobos (like mine) support DDR3 1600 without any indication of that requiring some sort of overclocking.

    So?

My friends have DDR3-1600 on their Phenom II, no indications saying they're problematic...

It will work fine, unless you plan to fill all your DIMM slots. That's where things get a bit problematic. You might have issues, you might not. But generally its a good idea to keep it at 1333 or lower and just make up for it with lower timings, at least in my opinion.

I can also confirm that it works w/ all DIMMs filled lol ... though there's a small chance it won't work.

I have my 2x2GB XMS3 DDR3 running at 1600Mhz no problem but the boards itself will state that above 1333Mhz, it is Overclocking.

Mine is @1600 also, I know it's a different CPU but still the same board...

    I have mine @ 1600mhz see specs.

so yeah... to get there I did need to choose that speed in the BIOS, otherwise it would default to 1333.

I can't say I have had any issues, though I don't OC my system so its very stable. Then again if you have tight timings @ 1333 you might be better off, but damit I bougt DDR1600 so I must run it as such :nerd:

Be sure to test for system stability. I use Intel Burn Test, doing 10 rounds at Maximum.

I just installed 8GB of 1600 memory a few hours ago on my 720 based system. So far everything is stable at stock 7-8-7-24 timings (800 MHz memory clock).

According to ASUS they're good for 2000Mhz (OC'd), so you should be sweet as.

Well it's always going to work, just not as well as some systems. Depends on the CPU in question. You usually just can't clock the RAM quite as high.

Yes it will work fine, using it on my system. Also, since you got the 720BE see if your BIOS allows for unlocking of the 4th core that many of the 720BE's came with that is only software disabled. Mine unlocked with just a couple setting changes in the BIOS and runs perfectly stable OC'd to 3.4GHZ on all cores with air cooling. Free upgrade if you got one of the unlockable ones
