Takes a little time to get use to but once you understand the zombies there not too bad. You can easily lose them by running thorugh buidling that have two doors, not a dead end buidling. The spawn cities are very dangerous relative to the server population. If you can scrounge; -matches -hatchet -supplies -handgun/gun -canteen -compass They are essential for survival outside of a city. Once you have these items (most of them are in a grocery store) you can survive easily in the forests. The key is knowing when to run, when to crawl, when to shoot and when not to. The more you play the easier it gets.
The most important things to find are hatchet (very easy, they are all over the place in barns and industrial buildings) hunting knife (again, very easy) matches (a little more rare, they are in markets and residential) With these three you can cut wood, build fires, and hunt animals. Cooked meat is the easiest way to increase your health. You will find out how bad and clunky the interface is you cannot hold a pistol and use your flashlight at the same time you cannot hold your main weapon and switch to the hatchet many of the animations "lock you in" to what you are doing and cannot be interrupted you cannot move and change weapons moving things into your backpack is slow and there are a lot of inventory bugs that you will find frustrating Once you understand how to "exploit" the zombies you will find it pretty easy. They can walk through doors and attack through walls some of the time so watch out. You can lose large packs of zombies by running into the forest. They will eventually leave you alone. Hold caps lock to use the in game VOIP.
If you find a crowbar pick it up. You can hold that and your main weapon at the same time and toggle between them by pressing F.
The same amount that plays it now. WarZ is DayZ for chickens. And now that DayZ standalone is announced, I wouldnt be suprised if developers of WarZ wet their pants and game was canceled
Before everyone starts whining "oh god I bought ArmA 2 for nothing": your money is funding Bohemia so they can develop the standalone game
Exciting news. I'm glad to see Bohemia as developer, this is a great opportunity for them to get a foot in the door into the mainstream market. I hope they'll use the Arma3 engine for Dayz. The Arma2 engine doesn't handle lightning too well. With DX11 in the Arma3 engine, the lightning seems much better. I'm also looking forward to their remake of the old C64/Amiga classic Carrier Command. That was a cool game.
I had a inventory malfunction , where my backpack ended up in a cow 75m out side Elektro @fire station , then I hide the cow body thinking it was only hiding the pack , but it saved my life lol , as I was trying to get a hit on the pack after the cow sunk into the ground , a helo that was flying around town[shooting] took a interest in me prone in the field , but did nothing ,maybe not having a pack ,they thought it was just a looted dead body .haha. -any ways nothing to loose so went into town [after cooking the 3 meats taking me to 11000 blood] ,came out 3 hrs later fully stocked\armed with only a 16 slot pack , but still my first non starter pack and first time in a big town. -one big tip to op is to print out some zoomed maps of towns high lighting the loot locations as it saves time , less time zag zaging zeds in small towns ,and you hit most of the loot spawns. here's the map I use http://dayzdb.com/map
The maps are ok, but not for loot spawns, vehicles yes. I believe the loot spawns are generated based on building type, not manually placed....For example RESIDENTIAL_LOGCABIN_2 would have two loot spawns or MILITARY_HANGAR_LARGE would have 3 loot spawns always in the same places. Once you remember what the different buildings look like, you won't need the map.
-still a dayz noob started Aug.02 even had arma 2\ oa for a long long time but only played the sp. , I'm starting to remember some buildings , but with the map I just pick each loot spawn point as a mini mission ,get in then out , then on to the next using the most cover knowing the 2nd house from the intersection has loot and behind the 6th house has loot in a shed. too many zeds at one target , I cross the street and pick another. -so far most houses are cleaned out , but some hidden sheds yield some good stuff that I would have not seen them crawling around .
Nice! I hope there were a little bit more building you can enter! Dont trust anybody in this game tho, got fooled way too many times now
Anybody with a headset up for some co-op this week? I'm on midnight shift, so any time from 0700-1400 EST is good for me. Lemme know and I'll send you my Mumble server info. I'm currently near Bor and fairly well equipped with decent gear and hunting/cooking needs. I'd like to gather a crew and start trying to fix a vehicle.
Holy... This is just beyond crazy... http://www.twitch.tv/justxrippedn1ck/b/327671117 http://www.twitch.tv/justxrippedn1ck/b/327671583 2nd one is even crazier.... If this is a hacker, I totally want him to roam the servers and scare the sheeee e eeeee t... out of everyone. If it's an easter egg, props to rocket!! I want to play DayZ right now just to meet up with this guy! LOL....
^ I'm at work and can't watch but I'm sure I know which vids you linked: Axe-murderer playing the "It's raining, it's pouring..." song. The guy follows him to a new server and shows up in his car. Awesome stuff - I love the crazy stuff that happens in this game. On a side note, I've been watching tons of these Livestreams and every single one has scripters in it doing all kinds of bs. Fun to watch, but if I were playing, I'd be pissed-off at some of their antics.
That's him... DayZ Jason is a riot... that second video scared me pretty good, even though I was not playing!!! I can totally imagine the player freaking out... his expression was priceless! It makes the game feel that much more horrifying... Part from the movie Hostel - Tourist getting murdered in some eastern European country and part zombie survival... just classic. Agree with you about other script kiddies ruining the game but DayZ Jason adds a lot the game. Props to him for roleplaying that part so well.
