Sky's support isnt that bad from what I've read, just ask directly to tier 3/highest level of support. Its all I can recomend if your not willing to flash your router..

If not look towards a entareseller, cause im migrating to ukfsn, this week. :D

just phoned sky up...and they asked me to use the test socket so ive done that but now look at this VERY WEIRD.

note my line attention has dropped quite a bit but no difference in speed:bang:

    ADSL LinkDownstreamUpstreamConnection Speed1056 kbps640 kbpsLine Attenuation15.5 db28.0 dbNoise Margin31.4 db13.0 db

they said to monitor my connection if not sorted phone them back and they will put me through to level 3 tech support again.

but ive noticed while im on the phone it seems to crackel a bit and its hard to hear the other end!!

Its not sorted, the attenuation has changed because of the good ol' netgear bug. (its still the same 44 att, just the bug masking it.

Call up sky (next time) and ask for the highest level, then ask for the snr/noise margin to be set to 6/7/8/9, this is the only way your going to get it work, with out using the netgear/sky util or using different firmware.

You could probably get 7mbits if your lucky, with a little tweaking. but i'd say 5 easily.

i also mentioed about adsl+2 OH NO I DOUBT IT STILL WOULD ONLY BE 3MB.

i dont think some of these tech guys no what there doing i mean im stuck on 128kbps!!! whats that all about.

so now ive got to wait for 3 hours +.

if things dont improve ill cancel this contract **** the 12 month thing

ADSL2/+2 would get you 6 to 10mbits at most, I'd recomend ADSL2 (not +) on your line.

All UK ISP's have high contentiona ratios in comparison with the rest of the world. Your best bet is to downgrade from SKY MAX 10GBP per month to 8MB 5GBP per month. You are giving them double the value for no reason LOL.

Anyway, an 8MB signal will be more consistant on your line. That 16Mb is overkill. If we put 8MB on a line that supports only say 1.5mb the connection will be sporadic... Its the nature of the technology.

Actually no it wont since Sky puts users on ADSL Max or ADSL2+, all of these are rate adaptive, unless he is on a fixed speed connection, 2mbit/1mbit or 512kbit, which are soon to be abandoned by BTw.

Ok fair enough. Aside from that, why pay for 16MB @ 10GBP per month vs 8MB @ 5gbp per month when he can only get 4MB anyway

EDIT - Just checked, our 8MB is also rate adaptive. It still affects ours and its all the same tech. We have to put them on a 512kbps or 2mb fixed connection if their line supports less than 2MB, otherwise the connection can be sporadic.

True, yes, but what If he needs to download more than his allowance, there is no choice with in sky.

Why are they doing that? I've requested my ISP (not BT) to put me back on 2MB fixed which they said its not a problem. As I can't stand line adaptive rate. It's too flaky for my liking. Especially when BT can lower the profile whenever they bloody well please.

Which tells me that BT don't want fixed around, so if somebody syncs at 2MB/3MB on Max and so on their profile will be lowered to 1MB to spread the load and so on. As well as to point out, if it syncs at 2MB theres nothing wrong in their eyes. As BT are so deceitful with these kind of practices.

Rate adaptive adsl isnt the problem, your line is the problem, if its 'flaky'. BT dont directly lower the ip profile, its a combination of your router/modem, phone line and the dslam.

BTW: if you sync at 2Mb youll be on 2mbit profile and 3MB and 3mbit profile, not 1mbit.

    (2280+ and 3200+ )

But I do agree BT could save money on bandwidth by making those on long lines use rate adaptive setups. :(
