Switched to Cyanogenmod about a year ago, never going back. I hope lineageOS will keep it alive.

I have Cyanogenmod on both my S3 and Note4

Everyone hates Google and their policies. :puke2:

Everyone loves Cyanogen and their tries to improve our lives.

Tons of people running android Marshmallow/Nougat instead of lollipop/kitkat because of them. Google should die with their upgrade/update policies forcing hardware/mobile manufacturers a two years maximum support.

But still, Cyanogen is gonna stop, life is a *****. :bang:

No big deal for me. Many alternate custom roms, as good or even better than C'gen.

Many are based on CM code. Sadly.

    WHAT!!???

I have it on my old S3 and S5 it is by far the best custom rom there is to me.

On my S5 it improved performance, was insanely more responsive, booted within 20-30 seconds, and near doubled the battery life on the device.

Shame I can't install it on my S7 which I would do, as the European version of the S7 has Samsung Exynos Processor instead of the Snapdragon in the Asia and US releases.

For Samsung users (S5 here), CM code is limited. Samsung camera drivers/framework is closed source and CM can not replicate the quality of the Touchwiz camera. But many TW based roms can and are therefore superior to CM in this area. CM OK for other phones maybe, just not Samsung if you care about camera performance.

Is that still an issue, i remember that from when I had CM on the S1/3, pretty much ruined the S3 camera.

Don't keep up with things anymore, but im sure there are other ROMs out there for those who want the newest version and the hardware makers are better with supporting newer software upgrades these days anyway.

it's the silicon valley experience, good majestic companies get burned sometimes by their own mismanagement and other things. Steve Kondik will surly endeavor with more brilliant ideas! Be it for Android or maybe a different kind of technology?

That is not CM's fault at all. It is Samsung not being very Dev friendly. Samsung never put out the code needed for CM Devs to make a good rom. Touchwiz blows ass and you are stuck with it if you want a good running samsung rom. That is the whole problem. Also what are you going to do in 1.5 years when Samsung stops updating their phones. You are stuck on a older version of Android. CM made it so that you could still update to newer versions pass 1.5 years or so. Its the main reason that I only bought Google phones before I made the change to Apple. I wanted updates and to be able to have the latest and greatest. Only a Google Phone can give you that with Android sadly. Samsung makes some great phones but you are stuck with Samsung crap ass support and having to upgrade every year to have the latest version of Android.

Some Touchwiz based custom roms rock and are even better for me than CM (have tried over 20 custom roms over past couple years). Some allow for a great deal of customization where you can remove all the bloat, useless junk often included in the stock firmware. As well as correcting other shortcomings and adding a wealth of performance related options, tweaks, audio enhancements, kernels, keyboards, Xposed framework, etc. In terms of stability and functionality, Touchwiz roms are imo superior to CM based roms, and they do come in the latest Android versions as well (for S5 at least).

Yes, its not CMs fault for Samsung not being dev friendly, but that only makes CM a less viable option (vs TW based custom roms) in this case.
