Crysis developer Crytek is threatening to leave Germany as the government plans to ban violent video games. 16 interior ministers met in June to form a proposal that would ban the production and distribution... More...
With all of the a crazy censorship going on over there, i don't blame them, and i actually encourage them to do so
I guess Germany prefers actual killing over just virtual one. I'll never understand that. It's in our nature to kill. Everything on Earth does it (as far as carnivore and omnivore creatures are involved). Except the fact that we now have means of realistic copy of that without actually killing anyone. Isn't that great!? And they want to ban that. WTF were you thinking when you throw out that idea!?!?!?!?! History facts also tell that computer games clearly aren't the reason why ppl kill other ppl. There were absolutelly no home computer games before 1950, yet ppl were still killing other ppl for various reasons. Doesn't that tell something by itself? But no, today, games are universal excuse for violence. This just means they don't want to open their eyes and admit that there is something wrong with the way how parents teach their kids about whats good and wrong. I think gaming industry, especially companies that are involved in production of violent games to seriously revolt and show the world they should not f**k with them for every freakin dumb killing or murder it happens.
Why would the US build that multi million dollar military base where people come just before they shipout to iraq/afgh to desensitize them if playing crysis at home does the same thing, lol? The crazy tinfoil people struck again
Explanation ... The actual truth is that computer games provide a way to channel ones agressiveness to a place where it cant hurt anybody. And so in the end and in majority of cases playing violent games actually helps against real life violence. There is a well documented fact about (and dont ban me for this) pornography. There used to be countries where any kind of pornography was totally banned. It was found out however that the ban of pornography led to dramatic increase in sex related crimes (rapes, harassment and the like) and when i say dramatic we are talking increase in the range 50%-100% or respective decrease if its the other way around. (quick search article with references: http://www.hawaii.edu/PCSS/online_artcls/pornography/prngrphy_rape_jp.html). Now the logical connection of why this happens is probably obvious to anyone reading this so i will not go into detail. Be assured though that it works in a simillar way with violent games. If you probihit people to release their agression one way (rather harmless one at that), they will surely find another way to satisfy their need for it, which for some might be equally harmless(sports), for others it might be something a lot more horrifying ...
Anyone feel Germany has went too far in the opposite direction with all this violence banning nonsense. Present day society is no-more violent than the past, probably less violent, its just every tiny violent crime is reported and glorified by the press, and as parents and politicians love to point fingers, rather than accept responsibilty, movies and games are usually blaimed. People also love to sugar coat the past, i often hear old timers here in Glasgow complainging about how dangerous it is these days, conveniently forgetting that the 60's in Glasgow was home to some of the worst stabbings and slashings every, all done in the sake of looking cool, not to mentionthe razor gangs in the 1930s. I would rather the kids were in shooting and maiming CG people that outside, bored, drunk and doing it to real people. The biggest damage video games do to society is probably helping obesity, i know i've skipped a few gym sessions to get stuck into something new with a bag of munchies and a box of beer at my side lol.
I don't think the voice of Crytek will even be considered by the people trying to ban violent video games in Germany.
banning doesn`t solve anything it's education, care and access to information what helps society to understand itself thus to improve itself banning it's the last resource, when anything else works ; but then you have to accept the side effects; in the long term, it will encourage ppl to go violent; instead of keeping them away from it. Give ppl games, but help them to UNDERSTAND what games are all about; it's like this : 1) 2 million ppl play violent games 2) 0,1 % for that ppl go nuts and kill somedody because they thing they are living some game in real life or they just can't differentiate reality from fiction Solution-> YES we bann the games, so nodody goes nuts ... HELL YEA they are smart Most of the ppl that are negatively affected by games have some short of latent problem already...... but it's more expensive and time consuming to investigate and try to help them; heck, it's just easier to bann the game !! it's like killing sick ppl so the disease do not spread; instead finding the source and a cure......... sometimes I wonder how humanity has gone so far.......
I really HATE videogaming. I really hope that everyone who plays videogames will be arrested and prosecuted. To hell with videogames!!!! Everyone knows that the world was a paradise before the rise of the videoga(me)pocalypse. We had no violence 30 years ago and before. WWII? Well, damn that rock and roll music causing all the violence! Ohh.... wait.... it didn't exist back then. Curse you....... whatever else is the scapegoat.
I'm sure Crytek will find a home. It sucks for those who may have to consider leaving their home to stay with Crytek but it isn't as if Crytek won't survive......Now...hurry up with Crysis 2 would ya?
Why? They have developed some amazing tech, with a little bit of marketing their engine might be a huge success like Unreal Engine 3.
Because people like to crap on Crytek. I, for one, am a huge fan of theirs and can't wait until the next game. FarCry and Crysis are my favorite games of all time and I still play both over and over again.
