Played a few hours of this game now, my overall impressions. User Interface/Game Design I like the layouts of the menus, they are not too confusing. But the way the background moves on a pivot is a little annoying. The maps are pretty nice too, detailed, with lots of hidden ways to jump around the map to flank your enemy. The inclusion of a big map and a small map is great as you really get a sense of how different game modes will play out. Overall the UI could of had a more clear layout but otherwise it looks sleek and polished, as for the maps they are very well designed. Graphics/Performance Compared to the 360 demo, 10x better. Higher res textures, less jaggies, and a lot less texture/shadow popping. Much better draw distance, better motion blur. Gun models are detailed but small amount of guns in the demo is a little rubbish and most of them are all black textured (unless you can get camos I don't know). Character models are great, but the new nano suit looks rubbished when compared to the first game. Overall graphics are great, performance is pretty good too never dips below 40fps "hardcore" @ 1080p DX9. Gameplay This is where the game excels. The gameplay is pretty damn sweet, the ability to slide across the floor, jump great heights, ground pound, have increased armour, stealth cloak, thermal vision, all add up to some great gameplay moments. You can also unlock, and upgrade all your abilities, and weapons as well as unlock new ones. You can customise your dog tags, weapons, and abilities to your liking. There is plenty to do even in the demo, but its still very restrictive to what and how far you customise and progress. What I love, is just how balanced the game actually is. Many will say that the stealth cloak is over used and annoying, but that's what the thermal vision, and radar is for. Most things have a weakness you just have to find them. No weapon I have used yet seems over powered but this is a demo and we are restricted to what guns we can use. The only thing that is overpowered are the gun mounts which can be taken off and carried around but to counter this powerful weapon you move a lot slower with it. Overall the gameplay is a blast, get some friends added, start up a game, and just go nuts. Its much better than COD's gameplay even if its similar with the killstreaks. But the game definitely has its only feel to it. In some cases is slower than COD and some cases its faster. Its just how, or what type of gamer you are, and what type of gamer you want to be. Play it how you want, and you will have a blast! OVERALL UI/Design = 7/10 (pivoting menus gets really annoying!) Graphics/Performance = 8/10 (Great graphics, just waiting for DX11 now) Gameplay = 9/10 (Engaging, nice touch on classic game types, well made maps, great abilities, well balanced so far, nice customisation abilities) OVERALL SCORE = 8/10 Not bad at all, for me its a 100% definite first day buy
Who cares? Its gonna die on its arse anyway. Its awful and that's me being kind. Even DX12 won't make this look any better. Awful business idea to release the PC demo, about 70% of the people who will play the demo will save some cash and buy something else. Homefront maybe? Its another one of those throw away games, you play the single player once and then put it in the trash can. lol CPC_RedDawn ^ Everyone has their own opinion of course. I'd score the game 4/10 and again that's being kind.
Good review. Nice to see it wasn't just menu who disliked the moving menu's, i just thought i was in a mood lol.
It is pretty fun, but I hope in the full edition they will allow you to make your own settings. I don't like motion blur and I want to be able to see the different options. It runs smooth on hardcore on the roof level but the dock level does not run as well...very playable though. I Didn't have any errors or issues making an login, starting, or playing a mission.
Downloaded it and tested today - purely for "benchmarking" as I'm not at all interested in the gameplay. It reeks of a console port and doesn't look as good as the first game did, not by a long shot. Of course, they may change some things when it's actually released, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it just yet. On my rig @ 1080p: Hardcore - 36-45 FPS --- felt choppy if there was an option to disable the motion blur, I imagine it may have felt smoother. Gamer - 52 - 57 FPS --- felt smooth all the time and looked close enough to Hardcore to not notice much difference. Advanced - 55 - 65 FPS --- Looked the same as Gamer when on the move, worse if stopping to check out textures close up. I don't plan on buying it, but maybe that info will assist those who are trying to decide if their PC can handle it or not.
Everyone expects it to look better than the first game, but the pic I made a long time ago is still relevant. Shoot, for kicks, I can mock up the first Crysis with the CryEngine3 and it would still look the same. Mostly the same tweaks, same TOD mods, same vegetation amount.
Thanks man I didn't even see that there were new drivers out today and the sli profile did the trick. I stuck 60fps on the highest setting with both gpu's being used and the newest beta drivers.
It runs butter smooth for me. 35fps+ 1440x900 hardcore settings. newest ati drivers. I have aim assist off and I pwn the hell outta people. Every game Im going 13-2 Im not even using a desk. Im in the middle of moving. I am using a keyboard and mouse in my lap using my leather 300 dvd disc case in my lap. Graphics are great for dx9. I really wanna see dx11 even if it rapes my hd5700. Graphics do look great. They did optimize the hell outta the engine.
I would agree that this game is very well optimized taking that argument away from people. But as far as features and gameplay it isn't really getting me excited to part with my money.
HA! I like that. I got my demo from Steam if that helps. A few of my friends also downloaded it from there without problems. It is different from the first game, but I really like what they changed. I love the Halo+COD+Fast game play+... Nanosuit... feel.
Dunno, someone also confirmed it messed with BFBC2 for him. Perhaps because I tried logging into it with my EA account or whatever. Also BFBC2 asked for CD Key after I installed C2Demo. Does it make sense? Not really. If this is a demo of how the final product will work, then way to go, Crytek! Maybe I'll try with Steam version next time, I'm done with this bs for now.
I really didn't want to do it, but I have to: Here's my +1 That's exactly how I felt in demo. If they improve it, perhaps I'll buy it. But I think it'll be $15 sale rather than preorder.
how can i start the game as i join a server it just takes me to lobby with players names and nothing happens. am i missing something here?
the mp is easy, like all other console ports. thats all i can say. not sure if i will buy this. i'll wait for reviews.
Regardless (excluding games where you only fight NPCs) of game MP is only as hard as the people you are facing. Crysis 1 was meh to me, over blown, MP was like a watered down Battlefield 2142. So definitely my personal opinion.
It's not that it's **** on PC, it's not even that it's a **** game in general. It's that it is a **** Crysis (based on game mechanics and the changes made purely so it would work on console), and on top of it the demo is a hugely lazy console port, taking advantage of nothing the PC has to offer, and forcing console like limitations on to us. These people MAKE GAMES FOR A LIVING. They either released a representative sample of Crysis 2, in which case I am dreading the actual release, since I don't see any of the console creep being fixed before then (Although there is always hope, so I am not counting Crytek out yet). Or, they released something not representative of Crysis 2, in which case it begs the question of "What the **** were they smoking?", since this is going to have done nothing for their rep or hype. Some of the things they messed up could be fixed with 20 minutes of coding. I mean, it shocks me that some developers still forget that sitting next to your monitor != sitting five, ten or whatever feet away from the screen. It seriously ****s with your view. I am sick of having to look at the Widescreen Gaming Forum page for fixing games that come borked FOVs from the get go. These people are paid to do what they do, and even they can't get it right. And when a game like Bulletstorm even locks you out of the user files (albeit with a really poor effort, making it even more pointless), it is just beggers belief that they seem so surprised when their games get pirated like crazy. Even if they fix the technical consolitis, they are still left with a game that has ripped off CoD to appeal to the console crowd, and they have even forced the same concessions on the PC crowd. If they had just left in the suit modes, I wouldn't be complaining that much. The choice of NY instead of the jungle sucks a little in my opinion (as it feels like it was done to allow for more scripted events, again raising the comparison with the way CoD makes you feel like more is going on than actually is), but I wouldn't mind if I still had that awesome suit. Which I don't. Why on earth does the armour ability drain energy when you are not taking damage? And why can't I sprint without wasting energy? It makes it a choice between getting to a fight in time to do something, with low energy, or not getting there in time at all. And where is my reduced recoil with the strength mode? Oh, that's right, like the speed mode they made it contextual, so they could fit it on to the controller buttons. Throw in the only recently heard by me fact that they are not even supporting DX11 at launch, and it is clear that despite what Crytek might be spewing about this being their best PC game yet and still loving the PC community etc, they are in fact just frothing at the mouth at the thought of even half of the people who bought Black Ops buying this, something which they have clearly done everything they could possibly do to make as likely as possible. And just to clarify, like I said at the beginning; I am not saying it is a **** game. What I am saying is it looks like it is going to be plagued with consolitis, and that as a sequel to Crysis it is incredibly disappointing, especially given the crap that Crytek have been talking to try and keep the PC crowd pleased. It may well be fun at a basic level, but it doesn't look like it has anything special about it anymore apart from some fancy graphics. At least on the consoles. And hopefully when the PC version gets DX11 support. It really is just CoD with powers.
