Crossfired cards "not perfectly matched"?

What happens if I disable CF in my 1GB + 512MB set-up? I assume that I will then have the full 1GB video memory, with one GPU (the 1GB HD4870 is card #1)?

First of all, could you stop your ATI-bashing in my thread that was a question about CF in an ATI sub-forum?

Secondly, I don't undertand your point, since the 4870 was never intended to be the super-high-end card it turned out to be (hence the significant price difference between the HD4870 and the GTX280). Yet it almost matches GTX280 performance. So I see no evidence of your 'choking' claim in the link you posted yourself.

im sorry to bash ur thread but i wanted to correct that exact same thing, its not that superb card that can handle every game with everything maxed out

When all else fails, resort to synthetic benchmarks :thumbup:

 

As stated before, it IS a superb card considering it costs about 100 USD less than a GTX280 and performs almost equally. The fact that it doesn't run all games at 60+ FPS at max settings says nothing, the GTX280 doesn't either.

And for those who are familiar with benchmarking, especially 3DMark, know that it's not an impartial benchmark in the first place, and that both nVidia and ATI have optimized, and probably still are optimizing, their drivers to deliver the highest numbers in 3DMark. Personally I'm not interested in those kind of e-penises, I want the card to deliver good gaming performance and the 4870 does just that - and at a much better price than equal nVidia cards.

I've been using nVidia cars all my gaming life until the 4870 came along. If some future nVidia card has the best performance/price ratio, I'll just as easily switch back to nVidia. I don't care about what brand my video card is, but I don't see the point in bashing one brand or the other with statements that don't hold water.
