Well, there are plenty of good reviews that came out last week, that stated crossfire wasnt up to much. Infact anandtech, and Hexus both recommended against it (anandtech quite strongly infact). Here are some links from some 'respectable' sites: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2541 http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=1651&redirect=yes http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2005/09/26/ati_crossfire_detail/1.html It seems there are some issues with crossfire too. It has potential, but i have to say, after reading around im a bit dissapointed, after all, ATI have had along time to assess nvidias approach and improve on it!
for the sake of guru3d..... look what the thread at hardocp has turned into. big flamewar and now US vs Canada thread. We dont want that to happen here do we? Everything aside the way and language used on hardocp is not professional and not of the serious press. And if you will look at Kyles posts in the forums then you will know whats going on.
Crossfire may be a good alternative for the R520 SLi if they can eliminate the 1600x1200@60hz issue. Other than that, with the current limitation existing on R420 cards and the paper launch, Nvidia's SLi still has little if any competition. It's also interesting to see that ATi's claim of not needing game profiles was actually only a myth. Or simply not telling the whole truth.
I personally like the way Hardocp does thier video reviews. They use the highest resolution an AA, AF they can while still getting playable frame rates. Some cards can handle AA and other IQ settings better than others even if they fall behind or are even with the comparison at a given resolution. Plus it is a different way to look at card performance which just gives us the reader a different look at the cards performance. Different perspectives are always good for those of us reading the reviews. I have always favored ATI vid cards, but the way they have conducted buisness this year has left me considering nVidia again next time. It is fairly obvious that the x800, x850 crossfire was mostly just proof they had the tech to pull it off but they never should have even have claimed it to be launched before r520 as it has no chance of even being comparable to SLI with the 1600x1200 60Hz limitation
i like the hocps reviews, they test cards at the highest setting that they think is playable, and like badass says, its a different way of looking at it. If you dont liek it that way, there is also an apples to apples page or 2 in the review, if you absolutely want to see the cards in same resolution/quality settings.
:stewpid: LOL thats a smart thoughtful post you have there, go troll somewhere else hehe ..... J/K........or am i?:3eyes:
