I claimed warranty of my "Seagate Barracuda 80GB SATA(ST380215AS)" two weeks ago(tucky sound at startup), and got it replaced with the same model. Now, the problem is, that my system gets a "STOP ERROR(BUGCHECK)" and is restarted automatically every 4 days, no matter what I'm doing. First restart was in XP(C:\), and second in Vista(D:\). On debugging the crash dump file last time in Vista, the faulting module seen was "volmgr.sys." Immediately after that I removed Vista from D:\ and reinstalled XP in C:\. Now, no bugcheck in more than 5 days so far. But the hard drive still produces a "tuck" sound when I power on my system. I checked my RAM thoroughly using Vista Built-in memory diagnostic. No problems. I checked my HDD for bad sectors. None. I checked my HDD for possible problems using Seagate Diagnostic Utility. I ran all the tests. All pass. Could it still be another faulty hard drive? Or a faulty motherboard, may be? My computer dealer has agreed to replace the board, but he says another hard drive piece can't be faulty. My PSU is very good and is brand new. I don't doubt it! What to do? Any suggestions? I get a sound from my hard drive when i switch power on or off also, I have never given it a second thought, unless it causes errors or bsods it shouldn't matter. You should also try running a memory diagnostic and system test using prime95 to find out what if any problem there is.
I did mention in my post that RAM is fine. Every HDD is troubling on this board... so I think I better change it(board) first. EDIT: Just did a 51 minute torture test using Prime95. No errors, no warnings.
