The recent Core X series already has seen a pretty dramatic price drop in the HEDT segment, a reaction to AMD, as consumers are fleeing towards AMD for that better price perf ratio. It's now reported...

They got the message from their accounting department which seems to have very few numbers to add lately... sales numbers.

Hey, if they drop their 9900K and derivates for another 200$, I might give them another look.

Don't. It's a waste of cash and you know it. Your current CPU is perfectly capable, wait this year out and see what happens. Upgrading to 14nm is pointless, down the road core clock won't matter that such - core could will and it will be the most future proof approach.

Next year we may see something new from Intel on 7nm EUV, or (doubt it) 10nm. Slap on top of it AMD will release Zen 3 late this year/early next year.

Now we see one example of how that "set-aside" 3 billion is being used. I'm sure AMD will be interested to see if they cross the line. This line is interesting...

Intel still the best for gaming all the way around. Im not one of those people who jump on the AMD bandwagon and act liek AMD are real Heroes or something. They are in buissness to make money same as intel and all of us deap in our hearts would do they same as they done. Looking forward to getting a 9900k

    Lies.

They are intentionally choking the supply chain to make it appear their products are in high demand so they can theoretically maintain high prices on obsolete products.
That only works for a while, until it starts to backfire.
    That moment has come.

The thing is, a lot of gamers are willing to pay a little bit more to get a quicker processor. So even if Intel drops their prices, if those CPU’s can’t match their AMD counterparts in performance numbers, people will still opt for AMD.

Intel needs to gtfo of 14nm habits and catch up to 7nm. Coz that’s what will help them gain performance in the end without setting the house on fire

This situation reminds me of the Athlon 64 vs Pentium 4 era.
    then Core2Duo emerged.
Hope that Intel wakes up and gets a grip of the reality.
They need it, we need it. Competition is always in our benefit.
Until then, I am just enjoying my 3700X.

whatever floats your boat. there is no perfect hardware, only the one that simply does the task.

Finally Intel has realised that they need to cut their prices to remain competitive!!! But they are going to need more than that down the road...

Nothing wrong or illegal with this, it´s a common business practise in all industries. Unless thay demand that their partners stop byuing AMD products like they did in the past.

Hilbert really would love it when I click pictures it actual bigger then one used in the articles picture, if it the same size why bother to even have it click able.

Intel does need to lower prices though on everything

Oh...they don't need to be so direct as demand, merely rig + stifle competition. Certainly, they'd like to see how far into the grey zone they can take this. Lawyers on both sides will be busy.

I thought about changing to Amd 3900x from my i7 7700k but for just 5-10 extra fps in the games i play its not worth the money i`d lose selling my current cpu, Asus Prime z270a mobo and 32gig Corsair V pro rgb ddr4 3200, also i dont think the extra bandwidth for my Corsair MP600 2tb would make a massive impact on my life

Lad, they broke the revenue/profit record last year lol. Stop getting drunk on tap water :)
Year-to-date, Intel has generated a record $23.3 billion cash from operations, generated $11.7 billion of free cash flow and returned approximately $14.3 billion to shareholders.
(and this was only till end of third quarter 2019)
