    Hi Guys,
    I have a Asus M3A78-CM that is a AM2+ M/B.
However, on the Asus site it states my bios will control an AMD AM3 955 quad. I read the 955 also uses a DDR2 & DDR3 mem controller so that shouldn't be an issue which was my greatest concern.
My M/B is capable of 140w delivery to the CPU, I believe this 955 is 120w so no probs there, my questions really is, will the 955 fit, will it control DDR2 sys mem, and ive heard you can use AM3 in an AM2 board but not the other way around.
Im looking to upgrade & ill go AM2+ 920 or 940 if this will not work but id rather go with a 3.2 GHz processor if possible.
    Thanks,
    Dave

I have the Phenom II 810 which is an AM3 CPU and it works on my AM2+ motherboard with a DDR2 controller. Hope that answers your question.

    Thanks guys,
Its reassuring to hear first hand from others doing this before buying a processor.
Im looking forward to going quad.
